I went looking at BM dresses. My sister is my MOH and my two oldest and dearest friends are my BM. I don't want to put the three of them in the same dresses. I would prefer MOH in full length, BM in tea length, but I realize I may have to put them in same dress different color. I had my sister try on @ 8 dresses. There was this one dress she tried on with a V-neck that got my mother to start gushing like a volcano about how gorgeous/stunning etc she looked. I really liked the dress, but the way my mother carried on about it, I feel like I will be completely upstaged on my wedding day if I go with that dress. My mother barely commented on my choice for my dress. I should add that all three girls are 5'2' or under, between 120-125 lbs, and two of them have chests that some men dream about. I am 5'4' hovering between 125-130, with nothing much to speak of by way of chest. Am I being too sensitive about this?

Noooo! You are SO not! I'm shure you're just being a lil paranoid.
Just remember- all eyes will be on YOU (oh yea- and of course FH)!
We've all been to quite a few weddings, and IMO, the BMs only get a few seconds glance compared to the Bride.

I think you are justified feeling they way you do. Having said that though, I think you need to get past it and remember that you will be the bride. We all want our parents approval, but they are human too and may not realize they may hurt our feelings. She probably thinks she was being helpful about helping pick out BM dresses.

honestly, you're not going to like what I'm going to write, but yes, you are being a little too sensitive. There is no way a BM or MOH can outshine you. All eyes will be on you, and too even think that isn't right. You want your BM's to look the best as well as you. My mom sometimes doesn't realize that the things she says are hurtful indirectly, but I tell myself, who care its my day. I have skinny big boobed BM's, I've never been the girl to walk into a bar and all the guys look at me, I've never been the girl everyone wants to date, I've never been the girl my friends were jealous of, but my wedding is payback. Its my moment!!

Re: Am I Being Too Sensitive or Shallow?
there was a dress that i wanted my bridesmaids to wear.
it was very beautiful but in all honesty it looked like a bridal gown.
my mom actually convinced me NOT to go with that bm dress because it could pass for a bridal gown.
the first pic is the dress i wanted (the bridish one) the second is the bm dress we decided on.
so NO, i dont feel like you are being too sensitive or shallow.
I hear ya ....but dont feel that way - your the Bride all eyes are going to be on you honey ....

No - you are reacting like any woman would - nobody wants to feel upstaged on their day!

Umm, if I didn't want honest opinions I wouldn't have asked. I appreciate your feedback and your view of the situtation. I did however fail to mention in my original post, that my mother has not stopped talking about the BM dress and how 'drop dead gorgeous' my sister looked in it. She keeps asking when I'm going to have her order it.

Re: Am I Being Too Sensitive or Shallow?
If it wasn't for your mother, I don't think you would be feeling this way. Look, do what you want. Obviously, this is bothering you, so just say 'I don't think that dress is what I had in mind for my wedding'. But the truth is, you are the bride, no one can upstage you. Maybe next time, don't take your mom dress shopping!!! And maybe you could even talk to your mom about it?
