What do you think about asking the MOG to wait to buy her dress until the MOB picks her style and, most importantly, color? I think it would look silly to have the MOB and the MOG wearing the same color.

Ditto. As long as they are not wearing white, it didn't matter.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
That is proper etiquette. MOG waits until MOB picks. But, if MOB is dragging her feet then all bets are off. (Not saying she is)

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
Etiquette states that the MOB should purchase her dress first..
If you are comfortable with doing this-- the three of us, me, my mom and MIL went dress shopping together-- I actually gave them a color range to work within just so they would all blend with the rest of the colors-- and let's be honest-- the moms want to all wear black anyway-- so I wanted them to wear a choco brown, bronze, whatever.. just not black.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
My FMIL bought her dress first and I didn't care. As long as it wasn't a shade of white or red, that was all that mattered to me!! Also I know my mother always waits until the last minute!!

This is actually exactly what the etiquette books dictate.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
Etiquette say MOB chooses her color first. But I also wanted to say that it looks really nice when both mothers are like a shade away in colors. Comes out really nice in pictures. Even the same color is great too.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
Thanks for the advice. I don't want to make a big deal about it, and you can't always follow the etiquette books. Still, I will ask my FMIL to wait until my mom picks her color.

This is my situation too. My mom is the biggest procrastinator so I didn't care that FMIL picked out her dress already.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
I THINK THE MOG IS SUPPOSED TO WAIT UNTILT HE MOB CHOSES HER DRESS AND COLOR, BUT THE 2 MOMS WENT PRETTY MUCH THE SAME TIME AND THEY KNEW THE COLORS THEY WANTED

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
Honestly it sounds a bit ridiculous to me... and since when is the MOB more important than the MOG? Both are women who have a child getting married that day. In my case, my mother has three children while FH's mom only has one, so it's a VERY important day for her. Why should she have to take second stage to my mom?
If both bride and groom are equal in the relationship then both families are equal, which means it's a bit ridiculous to tell one mom she can't buy her dress until the other one does.
Just my personal opinion, but then I've never been one to bother with the etiquette books.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
my mom and FMIL might be wearing the same color, and i could care less!
they won't be in many pictures with the BM's so i didn't tell them what colors they could wear. my mom chose eggplant, my FMIL might be wearing a dress she already has in eggplant, my BM's are wearing wine....but i'm the bride and that's what matters!
they have to be comfortable in their choices

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
my mother happened to buy her gown already- before FMIL- who tends to do things last minute, HOWEVER if roles were reversed I would not expect FMIL to wait to buy her gown. Yes, it is what etiquette books dictate, but is it that big of a deal? IMO no, it will look nice if they coordinate/if they happen to choose the same color, it will still be very lovely in pictures, for me, I didnt want white or black, anything else is fair game...

It never dawned on me that they may wear the same color? Is that a faux paux? It wouldn't bother me at all!!

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
According to ettiquette books MOb always picks first..and they only wear the same color if the bride wants them to match the BP. MOG should always give first priority to MOB! JMO
