Am I crazy?

Am I crazy?

Well, I know I am a little nuts, but am I really bad?

I was just looking at my registry and there are some very expensive items on it. My Calphalon cookware set is $449, the Calphalon knife set is $299. My Mikasa place settings are $79.99 each.

I also have a bunch of cheap items such as Mikasa stemware-$4.99 each, and cooking accessories.

These are the items I want the most. I really love my plates. Am I expecting too much?

Something that my FH actually taught me....I was going for things that were affordable for ppl, and he said, fine, register for things that are affordable, but also register for things that you really really want, no matter what the price is, bc your registry is like a wish list, some things you're going to get and some things you aren't, but what you wish for is up to you....and I know that some of our friends are chipping in for a really expensive item we registered for and getting it, that can always happen for you...

so no, you are not crazy....

It depends on your guests and how much you have on your registry. I originally registered for $400 cookware and then decided to go for something of good quality, but less expensive (Calphalon's Target or Kohl's line.) I have a lot on my registry and feel that people are likely to chip in for the higher priced items. There were some things that I was able to prioritize in terms of more $$$ versus less $$$ If the china and the cookware are your main $$$ items, then leave it at that- you will be happy. Again, it really deoends on your guests and the registry size/prices.

i dont think you are crazy. Those are realistic things to ask for we did plates, pots and pans, silverware and some other BS stuff, my parents wanted me to higher priced stuff on, but we neverdid

Bri Bri, I only have 39 items on my registry. Is that a lot for a guestlist of 85 people?

I read somewhere you should at least have enough on your registery for everyone to buy something.

Oh well I have enough for everyone. I have 39 items on my registry, but many of the items I need of like the place settings and glassware.

Yes I think those are expensive items. $300 for a knife set is a bit much. I would never buy someone a knife set for $300. I would give money instead. You can get a great sabatier set for $100. I think that is more reasonable.

I agree with its your wish list and you should register for things you really want. But me personally I am very realistic.. I know the financially situation of most my guests and I put myself in their shoes.. would I ever buy them a $400 set of pots? no way. So I dont expect that in return. I also didnt want my fh's family to think im greedy when they looked at my registry and saw all this very expensive stuff on it.

No - not at all....I think I have the same pots as you on mine, luggage and like a $350 vacumn cleaner!! People will buy what they can afford. I just have to learn not to be disppointed when I don't receive everything I asked for. I did register for cheap crystal though..I just really liked it better than the more expensive stuff!

I actually received my $400 knife set from FH's aunt. And I received my $400 pot & pan set from my 19-year old boy cousin for my engagement.
I received every single expensive item on my registry so, really I don't think it's asking too much. A good range in price is very good. Some people may even chip in for an expensive gift. I got a combined gift from my HS friends. It was my Coffee Pot from my fine china set. It was perfect for them to give me something I will display and cherish and no one broke the bank cause they all shared the cost.

I also had a ton of things on there that were inexpensive that people bought be. Like a $20 teapot or a $5 steamer insert. So you never know who's going to be generous. As long as there is a range, you should be fine.

I don't think you're crazy at all. If I were just a regular guest (not family member), I probably wouldn't buy you $300-400 pots. Since I myself am registered for $400 pots and $100+ china, my thinking is that these are the kinds of gifts our parents/grandparents/siblings might get for us. I certainly wouldn't expect my friends from college to get that for me, but maybe they'd buy me the set of stainless steel mixing bowls I like. FH and I really don't care about getting money at the wedding and I'd actually PREFER gifts from the registry (is that weird? ) so I registered for things in a varied price range--from $16 cookbooks (I need them!!) to my Calphalon pots.

No, not crazy at all....saw a purple vacuum cleaner for 599 and said 'oh...I like the color' and zapped it with the gun....is someone going to buy it? Probably not but hey....you never know. FH is an excellent cook and went for the top of the line knife set...figure we'll only have to buy knives once in our lifetime so it's worth it...if no one does then we at least get them for 10% off after our wedding. Register for what you want...people will buy what they want to either way.

I agree also- it's not too expensive- just balance out the expensive stuff with more affordable choices. Close relatives or friends might want to buy you a really nice gift! I registered for All Clad and my set was like over $600 (KEEP IN MIND FH OWNS RESTAURANTS) and that was important to us so we registered for it- my mother ended up getting the pots and pans as part of our engagement gift!

Re: Am I crazy?

Well one tip we did get was to consider registering for at least some of the more expensive pots (like All-Clad) separately rather than as part of a set --> people often register for the 10 pc set for example and that is fine BUT you do not save over individual purchase that way and indeed, get the same benefit with any sales. So either reigister for those items individually or add several separate pieces.

I don't think it's crazy. If the couple cooks, and I could afford it, I would spend that money on pots or knives. If it's someone that doesn't cook at all, I would think it is a bit much.

But it is your wishlist, so whatever you want goes.

ETA: Also remember most places give you some sort of discount to buy things off your registry, so at the very least you might get a discount buying it if others don't buy it for you.

Registered for it all, got about half. I've changed my mind over the last 8 years or so and realized that it really doesn't matter down the road. You will be thrilled with what you get and you will eventually get everything you are thrilled with.

I wouldn't say you are crazy! I have been in 'a chip in' and I'm sure others could as well! If you are able to find some other less expensive items YOU LIKE, then add those, but I agree with the others, It's your wish list! If they don't like anything you registered for, they can always give $$. Good luck!

You're not crazy! You would be surpised what family will buy for you. Just register for whatever you want....and the big things will probably be purchased by your family or really close friends. The other little things will be snatched up by anyone else....
