My FH's family wants us to going on a vacation 2 weeks before I leave for LI (less than a month before our wedding date)
It is a trip to the Cascade Mountains to a cabin with no electricity, water or beds. It takes an hour snowmobile ride to get there. 5 minute walk to the OUTHOUSE. The snow is so deep up there you have to use skiis or snowshoes to walk around.
I know this sounds like a joke.
My prob is this... I've said no. Again and again. Somehow I am still expected to go.
FH isn't really helping either. He wants us to go. I am not stopping him. I just think a) I will be busy with planning the wedding b) I may break my leg c) I may catch a cold...
No doesn't seem to work. When can I scream it? Thanks, Me

Re: Am I Crazy?
you may get a lot of brides saying that you can do it, just plan ahead, etc, etc.
BUT i would advise against going. you are right. it will be kinda crazy the last two weeks getting everything together, aside from being in a place with no electricity, running water, etc.
i think you need to be firm and say NO!!!! you don't want to be stressed, uncomfortable, etc two weeks before your wedding - you deserve to be as calm as possible before the big day.
good luck!!
eta - the last two weeks are really hectic - this is when you finalize everything with all the vendors (ie photog; hall - such as dropping off all your stuff, handing in seating arrangements; DJ; final fittings; and on and on). this is really NOT a time anyone should expect you to be away.

Re: Am I Crazy?
Yeah I did use the wedding as an excuse. They aren't interested in hearing no from me. I am going to talk to FH when he comes home from work today. Just explain myself again. I'm not going. They have to understand eventually.

Oh geez, that sounds like a trip from hell to me (I'm not into going places w/o electricity so I hope no one takes offense)! I agree, stand firm and let your family know that you really can't be somewhere for two weeks that will leave you incommunicado from the rest of the world. You'll probably have last minute vendor meetings and you don't want to be stressed worrying if a) they can't get in touch with you, b) you get sick, or c) you break a leg. HTH date twin. Best of luck. Here are some for you.

Re: Am I Crazy?
sorry - this is really bugging me. print this out for fh and show it to him. it is inconsiderate for them to not listen to your wishes, let alone not care about how bad the timing is for you.

Re: Am I Crazy?
wow, that trip sounds like my worst nightmare!!! I say pass on the trip. Too many things to get done before the wedding and the last thing you need on your mind is breaking a leg!!! Talk them into going somewhere local Best of luck getting out of that trip!!

Re: Am I Crazy?
That is my worst nightmare as well. There is something hinting around at a cruise FH's family wants us to go on before our wedding... Uh, we can't go on a 2 week cruise + take 3 weeks off for our wedding and honeymoon when we only get 4 weeks vacation a year...
Oh yeah, and it's TOO CLOSE to the wedding. Do what YOU are comfortable with -- and your FH should support you. That would be too much for me personally - so I feel your pain and understand your position.

Re: Am I Crazy?
oh HELL NO. I wouldn't do it right before the wedding, right after the wedding, or any other time in my life!! Give me a hotel on the beach thanks
Guys frequently don't budget much time for moving or weddings becuase the bulk of the organization is usually done by us.... so from their perspective, neither event is a really big deal!
So, if your relationship is similar to mine, of course he doesn't see a problem with a vacation when there's a big move and a wedding....
My FH told me in may 2006 that he wanted our wedding to be in early sept 2006..... and there was no dress, hall, chuch..... I just He didn't understand why!

Don't explain. Tell your FH that 1. he does not understand how busy you're going to be the two weeks before the wedding and 2. you don't want to go anyway. Who wants to risk a cold right before your wedding? Big red nose walking down the aisle. Don't think so.
The rest of the family, just say 'no.' Or, 'Sorry, you don't understand, I'm NOT going.' And drop it. When you don't show up, they'll figure it out.

Re: Am I Crazy?
Thanks everyone. I sat FH down and explained that it was bothering me that I said no yet I was still being pressured. He got it. So I'm not going. I doubt he is either, due to work but that's another story!
