i am getting married in 14 months and just got engaged 3 weeks ago--I have booked the hall, photo/video and DJ people say I am crazy but I don't think they understand that you have to book early if you want good vendors. Have any of you done the same sort of thing when you got engaged?

We didn't move as fast as you - but we were completely done with all our vendors at the 6 month mark. We have very few things left to do...
You're not crazy, just organized & it's great that you got it all done!!!

You are not crazy at all. I wish I had done it that way. I just booked my hall 3 weeks ago and my wedding is 9 months away. I felt like I didn't have the time to research the vendors as well as I would have liked. I think 14 months is a perfect amount of time.

When we got engaged we had 2 years and 2 months till the wedding. We booked a majority of our major vendors within the first 3 months of being engaged. Its very true that if you want a certain vendor or dont want to be limited, you do have to book early. You are definitly not alone!

We booked our venue in Nov. off 2006 for June of 2008, and some places we were interested in were booked already

your not crazy at all. booking early is the smart thing to do. you get all the vendors you want and you can also lock them in for '07 prices.

Don't listen to anyone... I did the same thing you did. I had all the main things booked after we decided to get married and before I got my ring, lol.
It's good to do what you're doing, Then when it gets down closer to your wedding day, you'll have less things to do!

No your not crazy.. I did wait a while after i got engaged to book things but i am getting married the day after you and I have the same things booked.. plus I picked out my dress and the tuxes and we bought our wedding bands.. Hopefully by the end of Sept we will also have our florist and limos booked.
Edit: I forgot we also have our honeymoon booked.

i've got 14 months to go til my wedding and i've been engaged 2 months now. We had everything but flowers booked as of last month!!! So no you are not crazy. Some of the vendors i talked to were already booked for our date! Things move really fast in the world of wedding planning.. and you have to move fast with them
ETA: knowing we were only gonna have a 16 month engagement moved us along.. if we had picked a date 2.5 years from then we probably wouldn't have moved soo quickly.. but still .. it's smart to plan ahead.. and this board was soooo helpful in choosing my vendors.. i got a lot of research done on vendors i was interested in and it was def. worth it to get information from all the wonderful ladies here.. so def. use this site to your advantage.. everyone here is here to help

your definately not crazy, i booked my vendors before i was engaged officially. but that doesnt mean you cant plan a wedding in 3 months on really short notice.
My sister planned hers on short notice in the winter and was able to get the vendors she wanted.

I don't think there is anything wrong with booking early! I like to get things done and know that I don't have to think about it! Good for you!

No- not crazy at all. Once you book your hall, you are supposed to book video, photo, entertainment and all. Just so they dont get booked up.
The only thing I would suggest waiting on is BM dreses..only b/c I have seen people order too early and change their colors.

i'd have to agree with the other girls. i booked the RH within 2 months of getting engaged and everything else just kinda got booked after that on a regular basis.
i wouldn't do it any other way to tell you the truth. i got the vendor i wanted at 2007 prices. if i waited to long the vendors i wanted would've already been booked and possibly more expensive.
way to keep ahead of the game!!!

Totally - my wedding is a year away and I'm already about halfway done with the major bookings. My FH thought I was nuts until he started hearing 'we're already booked that weekend' over and over again!
