Am I crazy

Am I crazy

for not wanting china? I just feel like it would just sit there and collect dust. And I would hate to have people spend so much on these beautiful pieces for them not to really be used.

What does everyone else think?.

I didin't really want it either but for some reason FH did (I think that was FMIL's doing). So we registered for a set that's not TOO expensive - it's like $80 a setting.

heres my take...you may feel that way now but in a few years..if you have ahome and learn to cook (if you dont already) you may change your mind. At that time you wont want to spend so much money on it yourself. So..nows you chance to get it... I LOVE mine to death and cant wait to use it like my mom did hers when she had other couples come for dinner

My FH did not want it either and still complains about it. But, I love hosting and parties and, when I have a bigger home, I totally think I will be the girl that hosts a ton of dinner parties. That said, I wanted a set that was timeless yet very me. We went with Waterford 'Colleen' and our whole set for 12 was actually purchased. It is a very generous shower gift from my parents. Since they do not need to help with the wedding they seem to be going all out with the shower.

i didn't register for it. we don't need it now. we have a small apartment and we aren't going to be hosting thanksgiving or christmas or easter anytime soon. so it would be a waste of space. i think FMIL might have a set for us that we can keep safe until we have more space for it,

Re: Am I crazy

FSIL and her husband told us not to get it bc they never use theirs and it's a waste. So now FH is hinting to take ours off

But I LOVE it and I'd never buy it for myself in the future so it's the chance to get it.... and it' so gorgeous and bc it's expensive I'd make point to use it!

I really didn't want it at first cause I thought that I would never use it.. then I realized that I would love to still have my wedding china 30...40...50 years from now. I don't collect much so it would be something I could keep forever and maybe pass down to my child someday....Then today I was looking online and fell in love with some Kate Spade china so now Im sold!

I feel the same way, that we wouldn't use it, and we didn't want it. But the woman at BBB convinced us to put it on, and FH liked that it's so durable. We kept it on, but we don't expect anyone to actually get us anything from it. We're registered for 3 levels of dishes, everyday, every day china, and fine china, and they're all fairly expensive, so we'll be lucky if we even get our every day set.

My mom said she used hers maybe 10 times in 35 years of marriage. She never wants to use it because its such a pain in the neck to clean and put away after a house full of company. I'm using my grandmother's.

I'm not getting china. I would rather have stuff I need and then buy china when I actually need it and can afford exactly what I want.

Thanks ladies =)

I'm torn on this.. My house is small and right after the wedding I don't think we'll be out of it and I don't even have a place within my house to store it especially considering my kids toys take up what is suppose to be my dinning room (It has become the play room).

I don't think you're crazy, but I'm with you, I see no reason for it. There are so many other things on my registry that I'd rather get. Luckily FH agrees with me so we just didn't register for it.

I registered for it and I can't wait to get it. My mom actually uses her china a lot and I know I'll do the same. I have hosted holidays before (even in my apt.) and I always think the table would look so much prettier with china. Plus, I think it's something I would never spend the $$ on for myself.

I completely agree... china for our generation is not as popular and who even has the room for two sets of dishes anymore???
I chose higher quality everyday plates (apilco, its a french company their plates are to die) and if you need to make it more formal use a fabulous charger or decorate the table with beautiful candle sticks... its all about things having multiple purposes!

Thats a great idea! Never thought of that.

Re: Am I crazy

I'm with you!! Both my Mom and FMIL told us not to bother with it because they both barely use theirs. And honestly we have such a big family that it will take several years before we could even consider entertaining for something that would require such fancy dinnerware. We just got 2 sets of everyday plates one more fancy then the other.
