i mean, i don't think he would care if i just didn't take his name.

so is there any difference if i just changed my maiden name? i know i wouldn't be the first by far to do this.

hmm... I never liked my last name either and couldn't wait to be married. Now I have mixed feelings about my new future last name... So I know what you mean....

But I'm not sure that I would change my maiden name... it's my name....

is it really that bad???

My great grandfather changed my family's last name and I don't like that it's different from other relatives even if they are distant relations. I am a history buff and I feel like you lose that sense of family history by changing your last name completely - meaning there's no family connection.

That being said, I can't wait to have a new name. I want to take FH's name, despite him having an annoying apostrophe.

I know how you are feeling! I absolutely loved my maiden name....then I got married to a very traditional Italian and it was just assumed that I would take his name so I did. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. Well...that marriage didn't work. Now I still have his last name, I never changed it back because of the kids. So now I am getting married again. I HATE my FH's last name!! It is once again a long Italian name, but way worse than the first one. I have told him this, very nicely. He swears that he doesn't care if I go back to my maiden name. But I feel like I have to take his name since I took my ex's. So now I will spend the rest of my life with a name I hate.

It's so funny, I hated my last name all my life. Couldnt wait to change it. And now FH has a much better last name...and I dont want to change mine b/c I am attached to it!

i hate my last name and FH's isnt much better but I once suggested us changing it together and NOPE not happening. oh well. sigh.

we just had a big fight about this on the phone.

he seems more concerned with how his parents could be offended by me not wanting to take it than how blah i feel thinking about taking it.

I am German also, so I totally understand the last name issue. Mine is awful. I've always wanted to change my last name, and I never dated a guy who had an awful last name. I'm so terrible, I know. I'm going to have an Irish last name now, and I looked more Irish than FH that most people will think it's my maiden name. lol

If you want to change it, then I say change it.
