Am I crazy to even consider leaving the baby so soon?
We just got an invitation to DH's cousin's wedding in July. It's going to be a lakeside bbq in Lake George and then a brunch the next morning. We would drive up the night before and stay over one night. It sounds absolutely amazing and both DH and I would love to go for a little weekend getaway like that.
Problem is, I'm due July 5 and the wedding is the weekend of the 23rd. So if I were to give birth according to my due date, the baby would be only 2 1/2 weeks old! It's possible that I'll go early though since the drs have wanted to push my edd to 6/27 so the baby would be maybe one week older. But I could also go later!
I suppose we could bring the baby with us but I don't know which is worse really - to leave him or to bring him along being so little?
Am I crazy to even be considering going to the wedding at all with it being so close to my due date? Would you try to go? I have to seriously think about it because we have to RSVP and book a room if we are going to go.

I definitely think you should bring the baby along, i highly doubt you'll want tot leave the baby behind. I could not bear to go to Dairy Barn without the baby at that age, I just needed to be with her constantly and 2 1/2 weeks is really young to be apart. You may have a miserable time just missing the baby, you might as well plan ahead. But then again, if there is a lot of people, it could be tough having everyone keep their distance (whih is recommeded). ALSO, getting ready for a wedding and socializing may be the LAST thing on your mind 2 weeks postpartum, you may need to just rest.

This was my other concern too! It sounds great now, but will I even remotely feel up to it at 2 - 3 wks PP?? What if I had a C-section? Would you just RSVP no?

I personally wouldnt want to leave the baby home that soon...FH is talking about going away like after the baby is 9 months old and I wont committ to anything...but Im a paranoid freak
You could take the baby along... but I wouldnt want to chance it...Like you said if you go late or you have a c-section..there no way of knowing how you'll feel...everyone heals differently!

I personally wouldn't be responding yes to the wedding. It is cutting it kinda close, and you just don't know what is going to happen and how you are going to be feeling. If you do have a c-section, I know I was not able to do too much for a little over a week. I also wouldn't want to bring my 2 1/2 week old baby around tooo many people yet. Its JMO, if you do decide to go, have a blast.

I would RSVP no. One of my best friends is getting married a few days after my due date and it is locally and I had to decline being one of her bridesmaids and already RSVP'd NO since I know I will not be up to partying, doing my hair, or leaving the baby.

personally, I wouldn't go...I know 2-3 weeks after I had the baby I just wasn't feeling up to it, you'll be looking to rest, and also it's probably not the best idea to have the baby around that many people so soon, JMO

I think, that no matter how high your hopes are now....come 2 1/2 - 3 weeks after the wedding, you are not going to want to go anywhere. If you are breast feeding you won't be able to leave because you will not be able to pump enough that early on. At 2 1/2 weeks, I'm all for taking baby on a walk in the stroller around town, but other than that, there is no way they should be exposed to all those people and germs.....there'll be other cool weddings to go to....enjoy your time with your new baby and RSVP no!

I would reply no. We were invited to a wedding last year on 10/24 and my due date was 10/12. We replied no because I was worried if I went late we wouldn't be able to make it. Well my daughter was born on 10/22 so I'm glad we said no. I was actually still in the hospital on the day of the wedding.
Even if you went 2 weeks early, you are not going to want to leave a baby that young behind for a night. And if you're planning on breastfeeding, there's no way you could do it.
I also would not plan on bringing a baby that young for that long of a drive. Usually newborns eat every 2-3 hours so you'll have to stop at least twice. A 4 hour trip like that could easily take you 6 hours with no traffic. I would also be concerned about introducing a baby that young to that many people.
IMO it's way too close to your due date to reply yes.

People aren't as 'strict' wedding-wise as us LIers. I would suggest RSVPing with a 'maybe' and explain your situation. You can usually make a hotel reservation and cancel up to 24 hours beforehand without paying a cancellation fee. I am SURE the bride and groom would understand whatever decision you make closer to that time....
And if you do decide to go, could you bring someone with you who could stay with the baby at the hotel??

Sorry but I think it would be totally selfish to bring a newborn baby of 2 weeks to a party. JMO

I would definately respond NO - I remember what it was like when Nick was 2 weeks old - there is no way I would have wanted to go anywhere, let alone a wedding or a trip. But if you do go, it won't be that bad because they do nothing but sleep and eat at that age. I don't think you would have a very good time however..

I agree. I really didnt want to go anywhere for the first 3 weeks ( My Dr. was a moron and let me rip ) and I was just in so much pain and couldn't walk that well and it just made life really difficult. It is true all they do is sleep and eat at that age though.

I had a 4th degree tear (which means LOTS of stiches - ugh) and wouldn't have been able to stand the car ride. walking up and down stairs or sitting in one place for a long time was pretty uncomfortable for a few weeks after sarah was born.

Personally, I wouldn't reccomend for you to go for the following reasons...
1) Once that baby is here you will not want to be away from it that soon not to mention that after carrying that little person around and dying to meet them for so long you want to keep that baby all to yourself in the beginning.
2) You will be extremely tired from the lack of sleep and probably won't enjoy the party because of it.
3) You won't be able to take your mind off of your precious little baby that is home waiting for you.
4) You may not be feeling 100% yet.
5) MOST IMPORTANTLY, what if you are late? Then your baby will be even younger than you planned and you will be even sorer.
JMO from my experience.

I had my son 9/14 and we had a local wedding 10/1 and I was NOT up to going! I had a vaginal birth, with an episiotomy and I was nursing....no way could I enjoy myself that early on@

I agree with pp, I didn't start to feel myself again for almost 2 weeks and that was after a c-section. For some people the recovery could be longer for either type of birth.

Personally I would not attend and I would never bring a baby to a wedding without the okay of the bride and groom. You have no idea how things will be going or how you will feel. What if you are late and have the baby only 10 days before? I wouldn't leave Molly at 2 1/2 weeks for more than an errand. I went to a movie at almost 3.5 weeks and I ached for her!
