I'm a bride from the UK and my fiance and I are coming over to New York for our wedding in May 2007! We are planning a small ceremony in Central Park with a few close friends and family.
We've been in touch with quite a few officiants in our search for the right person to conduct our ceremony and I was surprised that some of them were shocked that we were choosing an officiant so early. Are we looking too soon?
To be honest, they made me feel a bit silly! Here in England, it isn't unusual to start booking things up to 2 years in advance! Particularly for things like photography, venues etc as these tend to get booked up really quickly. Also, as we will have people travelling over with us for the ceremony, we feel we have to get things booked so that our family and friends can go ahead and plan and save for their trips knowing that our plans are serious and set in stone.
Please tell me I'm not being a total nutcase to be looking at this sort of thing already!
Thanks
x

Re: Am I looking too soon??
No, you're not looking too early. I booked my hall last year for my May wedding. During the popular months vendors can be booked 1-2 years in advance.

Nope! You are totally on schedule! There are girls who've been engaged since last year booking things for there 2007 weddings. It's true.. you want to be able to get the people you want, so you ignore those people making you feel silly, cause obviously, they don't know.
Welcome to the boards, and happy planning!!

No silly at all!! I booked my church in March 05 and hall in June 05 for a June 07 wedding! Doing it early is better, less stress later on!!!

Re: Am I looking too soon??
Thanks everyone! I feel much better about it now I just wasn't sure if things worked differently in America. I agree it is better to sort things sooner rather than later as then you get a better choice of what is available. I'd hate to leave it too long and then end up with someone who we weren't comfortable with to do the ceremony for us!

I agree, not too early at all Vendors on LI get booked so fast and some halls are already booking for 2008. I would get the major vendors out of the way and then you can take your time with the not so major ones.
Good luck

Not to early at all, things can book up fast so if you have a set plan you want to get it done early so noone else does.
