My husband's ex-girlfriend (from grad school -about 7 years ago) called him today (he hasn't talked to her in about 3-4 years) to let him know that her cousin, who my husband had gotten to known well, had a heart attack and was in a coma (she's only in her 30's - very sad, tragic). So my husband said he was going to stop by the hospital. It was getting late, so I call him to see when he was coming home. He tells me he doesn't know, he will stay as long as he's helpful. I'm like what? He tells me that he's helping the family in navigating the system (whether to keep the cousin on life support) since they're immigrants from Russia. I'm thinking why does my husband need to do this, I'm sure there are others that can help too.
I feeling a bit jealous (I know kind of petty under the circumstances). I guess it's from not being asked to go with him to the hospital. I feel kind of hurt that this involvement with this family was part of his prior life and now that we're married I'm still not included. Am I over reacting?

No he is not this person's family. I am sorry but decisions like that are to stay within family members only IMHO!
I would be really pi$$ed off

I don't think you're over reacting at all. He hasn't seen these people in over 3 years? And they dated 7 years ago? That's just weird. It sounds like he is just too nice. It sounds very sad, but they need to work this out on their own.

I'm sure your husband doesn't 'need to do this' .. but he's being a good person in a horrible situation.
I wouldn't make a big issue out of this.
I'd like to think if something ever came up in my life that I felt compelled to call someone from my past for help .. that I shouldn't have to worry about upsetting spouses.
Talk to your husband .. maybe he felt asking you to go along to the hospital would be a burden you wouldn't want any part of .. or maybe he felt it would be a more awkward situation???

He might just feel badly and want to help. I wouldn't make a big deal, though I'd be upset too. It's kind of him to help.

I understand how you feel, but I would let this go. He's doing what he thinks is the right thing, and what he feels obligated to do, he's not doing it to slight you.

I can understand how you feel. I see his point as well. The one thing I would be annoyed about is why couldn't you go with him?

I definitely understand how you feel, and would probably feel the same way myself, but knowing JT, he would do the same thing as your DH. He is just a kind-hearted, good-natured person that will help anyone out if they need it. And think how hard it would be to walk away from a situation like that if someone asked for your help. Just be grateful you have such a caring husband, I'm sure his intentions are only good, and he's probably totally unaware of how it is affecting you.
