So my parents and Marc's (FH) are throwing the engagement party for us in about a month. It's a casual backyard deal cuz I just wanted something low key to avoid drama!
About two months or so ago I go online and get prices for food and EVERYTHING! I make a very detailed list of what we both want. I give it to his mom and she is SUPER grateful! All she keeps saying is how happy she is I got it together! awesome... Well now she is telling me she doesn't want to use the deli i wanted, or the bakery! I dont know if any of you live near deer park, but you know A&G is the best lol. So I'm sort of like... why did I do all that work?
OH! And at passover (FH is jewish) I was telling his aunt about the eparty and she goes on about how her family bbq is that day and its been the same weekend for 20 years and blah blah blah... and we told her that we couldnt change the date because we booked the tent and everything already. I get a mass email from her yesterday saying how the party is the same day and that it's something that has happened for 28 years.
I never asked her to change the date. my date it was is convenient for my future in laws and seeing that it is at their house, i follow their rules ya know??
Am I being a jerk?

uhmm....... why doesnt she just come to YOUR party and whoever was going to be at her house, comes to ur party also. eveyr1 is happy

well then at her old age she should realize that 'shyt happens' and things dont wrk out the way u want them to ALL THE TIME. tell her to host her bbq with metamucil spiked drinks the following week. sheeeeeeeesh

i live in babylon & love a & g bakery. Your not being a jerk and let her decide what she wants to do whether to come to your ENGAGEMENT party which will only happen once or go to a BBQ which will happen again next year!

FH's aunt needs to get over it. You set your date, you're having your party. As barb said, dont let them bully you- its your year. Or let FH deal with it since its his fam. lol.

HAHA! Thats great~ I agree with everyone else the Aunt needs to get over it and should realize that no one probably will come to her party if she has it the same day as the E party

well what time is her bbq? because yours isn't ending until the next day she can have her own then make it to yours... what did Marc say about it?
Joes mother pulled the same thing with us because we were going to do a may wedding next year but she has the crowning so she threw a mini-hissy fit.. so w/e we got october which was the original date we wanted. just put your foot down tell her to stop being so selfish.. she has had her bbq for the past 28 years and will for the next 3958w36 years... (you like the 'w'?)... you however will only have ONE engagement party... sa, I've learned.. you can't please everyone. as much as you want to... it just doesn't happen.

yeah Auntie needs to step back and be happy for you guys. This is exactly why we are planning/paying for everything ourselves. Our families are very opinionated and i just don't wanna hear it.

everyone has an aunt like that.......your dig will be when everyone comes to your party instead of hers becuase an engagement is a waaaaaaay bigger deal than a bbq so u get the last laugh!!!!!!!
