First off, I'd like to thank all of you for a lot of wonderful information and ideas! I'm a newbie and have only posted a few questions, and each time you girls have been the most informative and supportive!
Now, I will be getting married in 2006, summer or fall, have a tentative date but am also slightly flexible depending on halls availability.
My FH (a huge procrastinator) keeps telling me I'm starting preparations too early since we still have at least 1 and a half years to go.
I saw a lot of 06 brides have already booked their places, and I forced my FH to go see some halls with me starting next week. But I do want to know, am I too anxious?
I haven't started on anything else. Should I?????

Re: am i overly anxious?????
Hi -
I am getting married in March of 2006. The only things I have done so far is Sent out Annoucements, Registered and Booked a hall. I still have a year and half until my wedding day and I feel like I did alot so far. The reason we booked our hall was because we were afraid that the prices would go up if we waited to next year.

I would book it a.s.a.p. I booked mine two years in advance and I still couldn't get the date the I wanted, I had to have the next day, someone else beat us to it.

No, you're not. We were looking to get married in the late fall of '05, a year after we got engaged, but found that places were already booked, and there were barely any Saturday nights yet, which is what we really wanted. Once we saw our hall and fell in love with it and saw their availability, we decided we could wait a few months into 2006 to have it at the place we really wanted.
You don't have to book anything right now, but it wouldn't hurt to look. You can do research on line and narrow down your choices so you don't have to both go and see everything out there. I did that with FH and when we went places, he was excited. We saw 6 places, and found what we were looking for.
Good luck!

Not at all. We booked ours over 2 years in advance b/c of price issues and we wanted to make sure our date would not be booked.

I think you should go ahead and book a hall when you find one you like. You would be surprised how quickly they book up. Bring your FH and let the banquet managers tell him how many people have already booked for 2006. I think he'll get on board if he realizes that waiting may not be such a good idea and it may limit your choices.

Re: am i overly anxious?????
You are definitely not doing anything out of the ordinary. Just think of it, as creating less stress in the end!
I am one of those brides who will be getting married less than a year after getting engaged (11 months) and was definitely restricted in what dates were available. I found the reception hall first and was flexible with the exact date, however I wasn't able to get a Saturday. I was initially bummed about that but Friday is a bit less expensive, not just for the hall, but for other vendors as well.
However, if given the opportunity, I would have liked more time to plan everything. If your fiancee isn't into it, then you can start doing YOU things, like dress shopping, BM shopping, flower vendors (not sure if FH is picky with that...) etc. Good Luck and most importantly HAVE FUN!

Another '0er here :)
First, congrats! I booked 2 years in advanced because I knew I wanted it on a holiday weekend. I would book it if you know you are looking for a certain date, a specific price range and if you are picky about the place you want. We wanted beach/water and had a price range in mind. It works out better to plan early so you get your first choice or can be a little flexible with the date!

you are never too early for anything, don't let people tell you that. I was engaged for two years and started planning right away, time FLIES!

No way. You are right on the money. We had an 18 month engagement and booked most things way ahead. It was still chaos at the end!

I got engaged the same day as you did. How did you pick a place so fast. We want to get married next fall and I feel like I am getting a slow start.

Re: am i overly anxious?????
hi!
thanks for making me feel better!! i just want to make sure i'm not crazy to start early. i am picky and sometimes it takes me a long time before deciding on one thing.
J&D: congrats to you! i started by looking at a list of reception halls on weddingsitesandservices.com, then narrowed it down according to price, location and reviews on this website. next step is to check them out in person one by one! good luck and happy planning!!

Go for it. We booked our hall in 2002. There's nothing wrong with starting to look at places. Good Luck.

Re: am i overly anxious?????
As far as halls go..LOOK around...also tell FH if you lock in a 2005 price it will be BETTER then the 2006 prices!
As far as everything else..I started at the one yr mark and I did a LOT early on..It was great in that the last minute details are driving me nuts and Im glad I dont have to deal with booking things etc... BUT...I have changed my mind on so much in the last year...I mean EVERYTHING, that I wish I had waited sometimes before booking certain things.. Im even chaning my limo's now...So just book what you really are sure about is my rule of thumb..

You are definitely not overly anxious. I have been engaged for over a year and we started booking vendors right away. Just think what a weight would be lifted off your shoulders each time you book something. Plus, you have more time to view more options. Good luck!

Re: am i overly anxious?????
I too booked my hall 2 years in advanced and my FH thought I was crazy! When we looked at tentative dates, a lot were actually already booked.....holiday weekends, so on and so forth.....totally start looking. You may even want to go with your mom/ sibling/ friends and do some preliminary searching....I did this and FH totally appreciated it....
