Am I overreacintg?

Am I overreacintg?

Vent alert!

One of my mothers friends went out to the North Fork for a romantic weekend with her husband. She took it upon herself to go look at every hotel I suggested in the Save the Date and send me a detailed review of every place mentioning several of them as 'crappy' and to actually suggesting NEW ones to sent to my guests!

Then, she ate at the place I am having my rehersal dinner (supposedly, my mother asked her to try it out-this annoys me also. My mother is not paying for the RD - why the hell is she asking people to taste the food!) and told me that I shouldn't have the dinner there because her burger was overcooked!

I am fuming - who the hell is she? Like I have not invested a million hours into researching everything I have sent out and like I don't have my reasons for picking certain hotels?!

I just want to scream - i hate people and their opinions. Usually, i can brush them off, but this one is just INFURIATING!

someone just told me I am overreacting and I need to ignore this woman and let it go. NOT EASY as we all know.

Thanks for listening ladies, I feel better already.

Ooooooh that would burn my butt!!!!!! Is your mother annoyed by this at all? I'd tell this lady to take her 'opinions' and shove them up her big old &%^!

Well if your mom told the lady to test out the RD place, then that's not her fault but your mom's.

Otherwise, I would just ignore it. We all hate when people second guess our ideas and stuff, but that's what people do. Let it go.

i hear you (so on that front, I am really mad at my mom, but I didn't ask this woman for a detailed review!)

I want so bad to ignore it, and my head is all 'It's not a big deal' but I want to punch the **** out of something and scream! (And then drink a big glass of wine.)

Big Question: How do any of you LET IT GO? Tips?

She had some nerve to be so rude. Like you don't have enough things to worry about!

I would probably tell her that her help is not necessary. I would say it to her face! I wouldn't even say it's appreciated. But I can be really tough with this stuff. I would be burning inside and that would be the only way I could cool off. Other than telling her where she can stick her reviews! Next time tell her to order her burger the right way and they won't bring her one that she doesn't like.

time will let it go...but its much easier said than done!

i'm with eogara, that would chap my hide too! very nervy of her to do all that. i guess in the end you just disregard all her advice and move on! if she says them to her person i'd be blunt and say it pretty ballsy of her to point all this out while she's not footing the bill. of course, that advice is easier said than done too!

You're not overreacting...I would be pissed too! Tell this lady to go scratch!

first i would make a passively aggressive, but on the surface good-natured comment, to the effect of 'wow! you had nothing else better to do with your weekend away than double-check my choices of hotels? you poor, poor, thing!'

then i would politely tell her that you've done more than enough extensive research into hotels and restaurants, and that you have your own personal reasons for picking the ones you did.

that would piss me off too-- but I have learned- everyone has an opinion and you can't please everyone.. You just have to please yourself..

My favorite motto-- 'f*ck off!'

Even if I don't get to say it to the person-- I think it.. It also helps to shout profanity in the privacy of your own home..

Re: Am I overreacintg?

You let it go by punching the **** out of the air perhaps (Working out) and drinking a glass of wine. Just try and take a deep breath and try and relax. My mom and dad do some very similar things sometimes and I feel similar. I take some time to calm down and try to rationalize perhaps where they were coming from. Maybe they were (in there own 'special' way) trying to help (yes again, in their own 'special' way). Like thinking that they would come back with only great things to say.

Now I must say that my idea of having a romantic getaway out east does not consist of hotel/motel jumping but to each their own. No they should not have based their 'review' of a place on an overcooked burger, but oh well.

Try wine and a nice deep breath.

Re: Am I overreacintg?

That woman was WAY out of line. Even if her name is Emily Post.... puuuulEEEEze.
She is a sad creature. Like one of the other posters said she must have a pathetic life and a lot of free time for her to 'review' all of your choices.
It would have been bad enough if she said to your mom that she checked the places out and if you were interested she would let you know how they were, in her opinion.

As far as stress... I've been so good at keeping up an exercise routine these past few weeks and I was a kid who never even wanted to change into my gym clothes never mind running around. I get on the treadmill and when I think I can't raise the incline anymore, jog any faster or for longer I think about my 'hit list' of people and all of a sudden I turn into Rocky Balboa

FH even commented the other day. I was on the treadmill for 40 minutes and in the last ten I was going at lightning speed and making all sorts of grunts and growls (I had my headphones on) He said I scared him What motivated me? His ex tried to rear her ugly head a few weeks ago and I was mentally punching her out while I was running Of course I didn't tell him that. Wow, if she keeps it up I'll look like a supermodel soon.

Wow, did I feel better! Just picture this woman and do some kickboxing moves.

I don't think you are overreacting at all....

As everyone (well, clearly not everyone) knows....if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all!!!
