Warning-this is a vent...I am so cranky right now. My engagement party is next saturday and this party has been nothing but a nightmare so far. I could go on for days about all the issues this party has brought on, but the one that is bothering me now concerns my FH. My FH and I did the invitations together, he made them, I addressed and mailed them. There were 5 addresses I needed still from him. I kept asking him and his response was,'Dont worry about, I will take care of it'. Well here we are a week before the party and I find out that one of our groomsmen was not invited. Our best man was making some calls and found out the one of the groomsmen never received his invite ( I believe his feelings were hurt). Now I asked my FH at least 10 times to get his address and mail it, and guess what...NO such luck! So I tell my FH tonight that I am very upset and his response was that I was overreacting. He said he would call and take care of it. But I am upset. This is a poor reflection on us, and poor ettiquette! There have been other invitation problems, so this was my final straw! In all honesty I do not even want this party anymore. His mom was supposed to be throwing it for us. It has turned into MY responsiblity to do everything. I wish people could make this engagement a happier time. Thanks for listening ladies, am I getting too upset here?

Re: Am I Overreacting?
I would let your FI handle this mess sinc eit was his mistake. If it were me I would make it very clear to the groomsman that this was his error not yours. I have found that when it came to FH friends, if there was a miscommunication problem or something went wrong I was always getting blamed even though sometimes it would be my FI mistake. One day I had enough and I told the friend right in front of FI what really happened and how it was totally his fault, not mine. I don't get blamed for anything anymore. Also the friend doesn't get as mad at FI. It is a guy thing I guess.

Re: Am I Overreacting?
I had the same problem with my Fi we had a Christening party for our son & he said we HAVE to invite 3-4 of his friends. Well sure enough he NEVER got the addresses. And (I'm not lying) he called 2 of them the MORNING of the Christening asking them if they were going. And said that the invite must have got lost in the mail! (they were sitting on our desk) I was beyond embarrased but his friends did show up. We're not getting married till May & I'm already telling him we need to get the addresses. I'm not going through this again! Men are weird that way. I'm sure if he calls his friends they'll straighten it all out & it'll be like it never happened. You can tell the guy that you told your FH that he needed to take care of this! Just relax! Try not to sweat the small stuff. (Though I know it's impossible)
My bestfriend and BM never received her invitation to my shower!! was never called, consulted...nothing...I was very upset...
this is what I've learned from that situation and my DH's lack of address getting skills...YOU have to do it!! I know its not fair...but do you want to get it done? I started acquiring email addresses of his friends and of THEIR girlfriends!!! (always talking with the women is better!)
as for the friend...tell him it got lost in the mail...he MUST know he is important...if he was asked to be a GM...
best of luck...and ENJOY the party!!

Yabbobay is 100% Correct When it comes to makeing sure the guest list is correct its up to you. That includes all the parties, showers surprise or not.
Move on from this - dont let it put a damper on your party. I am sure everyone will understand. But now you know what you have to do for your shower, rehearsal dinner and wedding invites.

I don't think you're overreacting. I'd be pissed!

Re: Am I Overreacting?
I agree. If you want it done a certain way do it yourself. Fair- no, necessary-yes. Scott is pretty good about doing stuff but honestly, I just rather do it myself, my way and make sure that is goes as planned. Call your GM and explain that you had NO idea that your FH never sent his invite. Honestly guys are not as picky about etiquette normally anyway. Tell him that you really hope he comes to the party and that you value his friendship. THen tell FH that you are embarrassed and this will NOT happen at the wedding. Get all of the address now for your invites and keep a master list yourself.

Re: Am I Overreacting?
LOL -- I have to laugh because my FI had almost 6 months to get his guest list together. I had to corner him, weekend after weekend to pull just the names out of him. And then getting the addresses -- It was a nighmare -- I hounded him for weeks!
We mailed the calligrapher our invite list this past Saturday... (which still has one person's invite going c/o to someone else!) And then and only then does he finally read over the list carefully and proceeds to make a bunch of corrections (oh..that's 'Annamarie' not 'Annemarie' and minor stuff like that) -- PLUS he adds a name!
I could have strangled him!!
Anyway, I emailed the changes to the calligrapher and it wasn't a big deal... And then my Mom called and asked if she could add one more!
I swear - they are all trying to kill me! I am trying to get everything ready as early as possible that way I don't have to go nuts at the end - so this type of stuff makes me crazy!
I so appreciate the fact that you started this thread!! I thought it was only me!! I'm so relieved....
Anyway -- I agree with the point made earlier --> invitations will definitely be a 'wife' duty from now on....
