I have to say I've been pretty good through this process and haven't 'really' questioned anyones motives...but im angry.
I have a co-worker (he's my parents age) that I'm very close with. He rsvp'd that him and his wife were coming about 3 weeks ago. This weekend I get an email from him saying they can't come because it's his daughter's recital and she has a solo. now...ive had solos my whole high school and college career so i know how important they are. but his daughter ALWAYS has a recital with a solo. am i wrong to be mad that they cant miss one recital to attend a wedding that will only happen once??
i havent written back to him yet cause im angry and i dont want him to see im angry.
what do you guys think?

Re: Am I overreacting?
I can imagine how you would feel angry, I got the same way w/a couple of RSVP's with a similar situation. Try not to let it get you that upset or angry, your day will be special no matter what!
Sometimes people do not realize that even though we are inviting 100's of people to our weddings that they were invited b/c we wanted them to share in our day.

Re: Am I overreacting?
Something kind of similiar has happened to me. 2 weeks before our wedding....A friend from work was one of the first ones to respond....Her SIL is PG and is expecting in Oct......
Now apparently she is scheduled for on C-Section the day of my wedding...and My friend from work now needs to be by her side....Kind of Fishy- But it is what it is....And If they really didn't want to come to the wedding then, they don't have to just say it and stop with the lame excuses...
Sure you can be upset, but don't let it ruin your day- Think about it....Is any of your day going to change because they are not there...No you are still marrying the love or your life no matter who comes and doesn't come.... That is what truly matters
So Cheer up, you have so much to look forward to !!!!!!

I know how you feel, why don't you ask him what time it starts and maybe he can come to part of the wedding, possibly the ceremony and CH or just the reception. I also would do it in person not with another email. Hope it works out.

Re: Am I overreacting?
I know how you feel. I got the same thing from a family member who lives in RI. She was one of the first to respond and then sent me an email saying she couldn't come (after I paid and put in my count with RH), because she had no place to stay.
I thought it was a little ridiculous because they are adults and should have a contingency plan or wing it....but whatever. What can you do...so people have no concept.

Re: Am I overreacting?
I understand you are upset but as it is a important day for you being your wedding, just think of the daughter when they tell their daughter 'sorry honey we can't see your first solo we have a wedding for a coworker.' Think of how that little girl is going to feel. Sorry Kids come first, maybe they didn't know about the recital we are all just signing up for dance now and finding out detail for end of the year recital. He could of just not showed at your wedding, at least he had the heart to tell you ahead of time.

I understand what your saying, but this is her 1000th recital and shes in college, so shes not a little girl.
But i guess i have to brush it off. I told him im upset hes not coming but i understand and he wrote back...'Sorry..kids first! Thanks for understanding.' grrrrrrr

Hmm....I can see how you're upset, but I'd see that they'd kind of have to choose their daughter's event over yours. Unless they could come late/leave early from your wedding?

In the end, he is a coworker and it is his kid. No matter what her age she is his little girl. Iam sure he wanted to come (which is why he responded yes in the first place) but if she has the forthought to tell them about her recital, then she wants them there. Your day will be awesome regardless

I totally agree. No matter her age, that's his daughter... but you will have a great day regardless!
