Am I running behind?

Am I running behind?

We picked our date because we thought it was far enough away that we could save up some cash. However, from the 2011 list, it seems like a lot of people already booked a RH. How long do you think I can put off booking without running out of options? I called Warehouse 5 just to ask some questions and they told me they were already booked. I don't want to have to wait more than two years!

edited because I made a really dumb typo

I wouldn't wait more than a year and a half to book a venue.

I think anything later than that you are going to run into more and more places being booked up for the date you want - plus a lot of places want a small deposit (small in the grand scheme of the wedding that is).

I only put down $1000 deposit originally and that was fine. Now I'm almost all paid off! (sorry for the shameless kudos to me lol).

You can at least start looking and narrowing it down - you might now have to leave much of anything.

Well, lets see... most of the places that my FH and I searched were already booked for 2011... I think if you have an RH in mind and you want to make sure you have it there.. than you guys may want to book.... Another thing is that most of these places have payment plans and require just a small deposit to hold your date. So you guys may want to consider that as well...... Or you can choose to save up a bit of money but the downfall to that is that you may risk have your date booked at the RH of your choice.

I can tell you that for Sept 2011 only ONE place we called out of the 20 we considered were booked for our date and most indicated that even before they checked the calendar they didn't see a problem. WE just booked about 3 weeks ago.

If you're not visiting yet, I would do that now, and I would choose a place were the payment plan is flexible and put a deposit down. That way you have more time ot pay it off and you can pay them as you have it. That way the money is going to the hall and saving it for your date instead of u collecting it in a bank account and not having a hall while everyone else is booking.

ALSO a lot of places are offering 2009/2010 priing if you book now or soon.

BUT if you're flexible about your date and where you want to go, there's no reason you have to do it now. Depends on where your priorities are.

UGH, the decisions we have to make!

ETA, I just noticed your date and I'm thinking that's Labor Day? That might limit you more and that weekend might be booked at more places because people want the long weekend and becuase sometimes the holiday is cheaper. So if you're stuck on that day, I'd get moving!

If you aren't picky about what date you want to get married and don't have your heart set on any vendors you should be okay. If you already have a specific date and/or vendors in mind and wait too long, you may end up disappointed if they are booked. We already knew what photographer we wanted before we even met with her, so I really would have been devastated if she was booked. FH and I actually met with her BEFORE we even set the date because we wanted to make sure that she would be available and we also wanted to go over pricing and packages. If you are more flexible about your date and/or vendors then you should be fine because for example, if one photograher is booked then you can just move onto another one. Another good thing about booking early is to lock in the 2009 prices. FYI -- my sister booked her wedding in 7 months and she was fine, so if you waited a little while to book your 2011 wedding you should be okay (you just may not end up with your top choice vendors).

IMO, RH and photographers are the only thing I would worry about booking in advance because they are the first to get booked up. If you know of a place you definitely want to book, than you might as well book now. You run into the problem of places not having your date the closer you get to the year countdown.

I know Warehouse said they were booked... are you totally dead set on your date or would you be willing to change the date for a RH you really want?

I think the earlier the better for the RH so you can get what you want. I just put down my deposit this past weekend at Chateau Briand and I really like the way they set up payments...every couple of months I have to give them a few thousand so by the time the wedding comes it is almost half paid for.
