So...I'm having a little wedding freakout before the engagement really even starts!
I don't want to start any actual planning until we are officially engaged, but I'm freaking out that we're going to find the perfect hall for us and they are not going to have any dates available!! I know people on LI book years in advance, and I still can't even look at halls because we aren't engaged yet!!
I know everyone will say just wait until 2011...but my grandparents are not in the greatest shape and I'm really worried that if I wait they won't end up being there. On top of that, my Mom's parents can only travel in warm weather (they live in Florida) and on top of THAT I will (hopefully) be in grad school at that point so the latest we can have it is mid-August...
I'm so worried that having to be so specific is going to screw me out of a good hall! Girls, talk me off the ledge!!!

i think you are fine. Plenty of girls plan their weddings in a year and you still have more time than that if your looking for summer of 2010. don't freak out

as long as you are flexible about the exact date, you will be fine! and if you are flexible about day (fri/sat/sun) and time (afternoon/evening) i really doubt you will have a problem
now, relax and give goo-goo eyes to FH so he can get the hint.

I feel like us 2010 brides are way ahead of our game (esp one's like me whose wedding is a year and a half away!) lol
You can start researching online and getting quotes over the phone so you can knock out places that are over your price range right away. That will save u SO MUCH time once you are engaged.
Start thinking about what i a RH is important to you. You'll be surprised that it will take time to find THE hall!

hunny bunzzz. i was in the sameeee exact shoes as u a month ago! lolol. u WILL find dates available..maybe not the exact date u want..but u will find a hall and a date.. u just cant be too picky... and soon enough u will realize that a 14k diff in dates you wont find yourself being picky.
with this site, a wedding could be all planend in 2 weeks. so dont worry!

here's my 2 cents. when I was looking it stopped being about the date and became about the place. we got lucky and found a place we love with the available month we wanted. you have to decide which is most important to you...the perfect place? the perfect date? or meet in the middle?

I agree with the other girls. Do you think you are going to get engaged within the next couple of months? Obviously, the later you get engaged the tougher it is. But that being said, many girls plan their weddings in under a year. When I was looking for 2010 last month, halls still had open dates for 2009. Yes there were only a couple of dates, but if you are flexible you can still get something. Not to mention, the later you book the more likely you can get a great deal. Places were offering me big discounts in January 2009 for August and September 2009 weddings. So it might work in your favor as long as you keep an open mind!

It is def coming soon...probably by the end of May. If he leaves it much later than that I may just have to ransack his stuff for the ring and propose to myself!

The only reason I have the hall booked is because I was originally an '09er. I don't plan on booking any more vendors until August comes along. I know I am getting married on a holiday weekend which someone people say is pretty popular, but I got so stressed last time that I prefer to put off planning for a while.
It just gives me alot more time to read the feedback about possible vendors that you ladies are posting!

Relax--- I am way ahead of the game. There are plenty of girls on here that have done the planning in less than a year. There is one girl who did it in 2 months!! Like others have said, start doing some research now so you will be ahead of the game so when he does propose you know what vendors you are interested in. You will be fine hun!

Don't worry abt it! A lot of us are well ahead in planning. The only reason I am is because I was able to think of ideas since '07 when I did become engaged. I know plenty of people who planned their wedding in 6 months and did fine.
Like majority of the people said, you just may have to be flexible and compromise on what you want b/c certain popular dates/ halls/vendors may (or may not) be all ready booked. it's a chance you take. I'm sure there are tons of girls who are not even engaged yet who will be getting married in 2010! It is 100% do-able!

Dont worry too much. As long as you're flexible with your date and time you should be fine. Also, most halls have more than one wedding at a time.

Hey, You will be fine. I started looking early (when I got my promise ring almost 3 yrs ago) too but ended up not even picking the ones I saw before because most of the halls I looked at before had more than 1 wedding at a time. I got engaged Christmas day last year but funny enough it took me forever to start planning because when I got engaged my baby girl was a fews days away from being a month old.....so I was busy..and I live in FL.. I came to NY and my sister was planning away....she is booked at sandcastle and I loved it there however the prices were too high for me but I went to another location they owned called floral terrace both are one wedding at a time and prices were awesome for this yr hence why I bumped the date up from summer 2010 to fall 2009.
Don't stress it, you will definitely find something you love.I would start looking at places right now just so you can get an idea of what you're looking for in a reception hall...
