That wants to minimize the slow dancing at the wedding. I seriously hate slow songs at events b/c I remember when I was single and felt akward as everyone else was on the dance floor, and I sat with my lonely self. I really just don't like them, and we're trying to come up with a way to incorporate all those traditions of mom/son, father/daughter dances in another way besides a dance....

I also don't want to bring down the energy of the crowd either! Once people are up dancing, jumping around - I don't want some slow song to bring down the mood ya knwo?

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
I completely agree...I want my wedding not just to be a wedding but a friggin awesome party!!!!!
I will do the following, not full songs just sections of these songs
our song father/daughter mother/son FI/daugher (FI has daughter)
then one other slow song for all the guests towards the end of reception and that's it!!!!

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
Sounds like a plan....I guess what I have to remember is that it is 4 hours, and you can cram a lot of music in that time, right?

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
there most of been 6 songs total
first dance second dance regular song mother/son father/daughter maybe one more
keep in mind..not sure if this goes for every wedding but they dont play the whole song for mother/father dances... they played the main courses part and faded it out

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
Would it be bad if I skipped all of them except for our first dance, and then invite everyone onto the dance floor, and that's it????

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
i see what you're saying but sometimes there needs to be 'rest periods'. maybe just play slow songs during dinner, dessert, etc.

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
They played three slow songs at my wedding (besides the mother/son and our's). And they were together...everyone was dancing at our wedding so we didn't want to stop everyone!

a good band/dj, will know not to bring the mood down when things are going well. I don't think we had a lot of slow songs.
we didn't do parent dances, , bouget toss, etc, which also help keepd the dancing going.
ETA- we also didn't have entrances or a bridal party dance. We just had our song, they were supposed to invite everyone to join in, but didn't. They played slower songs when people were eating & during the smaller courses, some of the older couples danced.

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
I think there should be more than just a few, so that the older people get up and dance too. Sometimes the newer and faster music is not what the aunts and uncles will get up and dance to....

I know what you mean. I'm not a fan of slow songs either. They're always really weird corny slow songs too. but we will do the expected dedicated dances and then party, party, party!

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
WE are only doing our dance and the anniversary dance.
No parent dances... Dad is handicapped.
Don't want the party to be an exhibition of Fh and I dancing with various peopl.

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
I minimized the slow dances at our engagement party down to one and the only person who complained is FH grandmother. Besides that it was a great time.
I planned on doing the same thing at the wedding. The slow songs are 2 dances completely for us and mother/father dances. Thats it. 4 in total. I like to be moving on the dance floor....not drowning in sad music.

Re: Am I the Only ONE????
you have an interesting point, but you need to have slow songs. some couples look forward to dancing together at weddings since most folks don't really go out dancing like they used to.
