Re: Am I the only one STUDYING today??
I am a brand new Graduate Nurse (I can not use the title 'RN' until I pass my boards, but you get the idea), and I just started a job at a hospital. I am going to be working in the ER, but I had to take a 2 week long critical care class and be tested tommorrow in order to be able to work in a critical care area. I dont want to study, but if I dont than I am in trouble! What does DH do? Is he a nurse too?

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!!! You're gonna do a great job!!!! Keep us posted please!
DH is a PA (physician assistant)......he has to take his boards every 6 years...he just took his again in May and passed with flying colors!! Whew - 6 more years free and clear! He also works in surgery - orthopedics!
Where do you work (he works full time in Beth Israel in the city, and per diem in Huntington Hospital and Queens Medical Hospital)....

Re: Am I the only one STUDYING today??
That is great being a PA! I was going to do that, but since I had to work at least part time, its almost impossible to get through the program if you are working. My cousin is a PA for years, and she told me to go into nursing, and if I want to to go back for PA later after a few years of experience. In some areas, for new PA's its hard to get a job, but if you are experienced, than you can take your pick. I plan to go back for my nurse practicioner someday, and they are almost identical to PA's except for the fact that they are independant practitioners by law. There are very few things that NP's can do and not PA's (such as not having thier orders signed off by the doctor in some instances) but they are few and far between, and the difference is minimal. Most hospitals treat NP's and PA's the same. I think the only difference that I see in my hospital is that NP's can write orders for emergency restraints, and PA's cant, but that is better for the PA, because than he doenst have to come and evaluate! PA's have the advantage of selecting different specialty areas though, whereas a NP must specialize, so in that way, they have more opportunity for work. I work at Maimonides Med. Center in Brooklyn.
Marcela, I dont know what Im complaining about, I dont have to take the bar! That is really hard! Congrats to you!
