FH and I are constantly arguing about the purchase of a new home. We currently are paying for our 30,000 something wedding ourselves. FH thinks that with this cost we will not be able to purchase a home (also adding the cost of homes these days). It's not like we don't have money saved up in the bank for a down deposit we do and we are not using that money for the wedding. I just don't get it. Am I being unreasonable because I want a home as well as get married. I see it as if we can pay for a 30,000 wedding without credit cards and family members help then we can afford a house so am I wrong???

Re: Am I wrong
We are in the same boat. We're paying for our wedding on our own and we're closing on our house in April (we don't make alot of money either , we both work in the social service field). You guys have to do what you're both comfortable doing and only the 2 of you can figure that out. Good luck!

Perhaps he is thinking about closing costs, lawyers fees, hook up charges for utilities, minor renovations once you move in and furntiture ect.? I don't know, I just know that owning a home is so much more money and work then I thought it would be.

Take one thing at a time!
Both are HUGE expenses. You didn't rush into the marriage .. you've planned for it .. consider buying a house the same way .. it's not something you want to rush into.
People are how they are about money .. and if you're FH is concerned about the finances .. you have to accept that.
I am very cautious when it comes to money .. always worried about the 'what ifs' and always very timid about making major purchases .. but that just me .. hubby is very much the opposite .. though for the most part not careless or reckless about his spending .. just not as uptight as I am.

Re: Am I wrong
Can I please recommend something NOT to do? We closed on March 31, 2003 which was 47 days before our long distance wedding on May 17th. The sellers of our home wanted/needed to sell faster than we wanted to but it was something that they were not budging on. For a month and a half we were paying for the mortgage and rent at our apartment, plus the wedding, plus the honeymoond, plus moving... It becomes TOO much!
