my mom and fmil are getting mad bc i keep buying everything like garter, unity candle, channa plaque, cardbox etc......they think that they should be giving it to me for the shower.
However I feel as though i am not going to cross my fingers that a month b4 the wedding i get all this stuff AND it is what i want. I dont want to seem like a b*tch but i know EXACTLY what i want and im not sure that my mom or fmil will get me EXACTLY what i want..
I said that i have no problem showing them what i want and them buying it but they think it needs to be a surprise. Not going ot happen!!!

I am the same way. I am impatient and went out and purchased my own toasting flutes and cake cutting set, as well as garter already. I like getting things crossed off my list. There's nothing wrong with wanting things a certain way.

i can understand you wanting to buy those things now so that way you have them. i think it is hard to because there is no real way to 'register' for those things- if you have your heart set on a certain look, you cant ensure that those are the ones you will get for your shower- you can always register for extra stuff so there will be enough stuff for everyone to buy you

i agree with you for getting it now. why stress out last minute. plus card boxes, unity candles etc arent typical shower gifts...are they?!?! i thought shower gifts were more like registry stuff.

Yeah, I would not want to be 'surprised' about that kind of stuff either and I usually like gifts to be surprises. If they would be willing to get you the ones you pick out as gifts that would be nice and be one less thing to worry about, but if they are insistent about them being surprises then I totally don't blame you for doing it how you are.

besides the shower rarely has anything to do with the wedding itself... i wouldnt expect any of those types of gifts at a shower
