You don't have to be her friend... she sounds like a whack job and an unfit mother...

The only thing to do is act like a lady (mabe that would show her) and be civil.. anf a few minutes into your conversation, excuse yourself and get the hell outta there..

I think you should be civil to her, as much as you don't like her, she could, unfortunately, be part of the family one day. How old is she? It sounds like she has A LOT of growing up to do. I think either of 3 things will eventually happen, 1) your FBIL will come to his senses and break up w/ her or; 2) he won't come to his senses, they'll get married and then divorce and he'll complain his whole life about the mistake he made or; 3) There's a chance she might be able to change and turn her life around

Either way, you might have to deal with her for longer than you think so definitely be nice to her

first of all, I'm sorry for all the family drama you're going through. thanksgiving is supposed to be a happy time for family! S*cks that you've got this nonsense going on.

But I'm a little confused: your question is, should you add her as a friend on MySpace? Now, I guess I'm a little older than most girls here (I'm 28) and so when I was in college there was no MySpace and I don't go on there, but what's the big deal about adding her? Just because you add her doesn't mean you have to be her friend in 'real life,' right? Can you just add her and then just not chat with her? It doesn't sound like you guys have much to talk about anyway. This way her ego is satisfied ('ooh look, I've added one more friend, now I have 97, I'm so popular'), you haven't added to a family rift, and you STILL aren't friends with her.

Sorry that your going through this, no I don't think you have to be her friend. I think you are doing the right thing, and handeling the situation the best you can. It is not your fault that your FH's Step brother may not go to thanksgiving or your e-party. That is their own choice and who knows they may show up for both.

Her daughter should be her first priority! She sounds quite unfit, esp. sending her daughter to her natural mothers when she just met her.. it's quite bizaree...

IMO - your not wrong

I understand your point.

i'm 27, I only went on myspace because my sister wanted me to. And i only add people who are my family and friends (hence, its on private). I don't go on very often. AND if i do add her and she does send me messages and I don't respond, i'm going to be in the same boat anyway.

It wasnt so much about should I add her, it was more about the point that I don't want her to think that I am her friend. I dont like her. I dont feel i should have to be considered her friend.

I would never be mean to her to her face, I would always be polite, but i feel that by adding her, i would be showing her that I want to start talking to her outside of just seeing her at family things, and I don't. If I add her, she will start sending me messages (like e-mails) and I have nothing to say to her. we are very different people.

Thanks everyone! I know she is going to screw around with him and prob get pregnant. He is already paying for everything for her, kid and apartment. But whatever.

I just needed your opinion, I wasnt sure if I was expected to be her friend.

you are not wrong at all.. i think you handled it well actually.. just tell her its on private cuz they wont delete the profile and you dont go on there.. and that is the reason you havent accepted her. end of story she doesnt need to know any more then that its none of her business.. and you dont have to be her friend. my FBIL was dating a girl i didnt like but you just smile and say hi when u see her and thats the end of it.. no more then that. They ended up not staying together.. but you dont have to be friends with someone just becase its his g.f your being civil in person that should be all that matters. sounds like she is super immature.. so just end it at.. that account isnt active and thats why you havent accepted her.
