My aunt and I are making these gorgeous but very time consuming 3D placecards (they're flowerpots with flowers) for my wedding next weekend and I've been harassing FILs for their tables for at least two weeks. They keep telling me that they are finished and typed into the computer but because they haven't sent it to me leads me to believe that they're not being honest with me.
I've already given them a deadline, which they are about to hit. They can never do anything on time. And I certainly won't have the time next weekend (wedding is Sunday) to be running around to finish up their cards. Even if I did, Fox Hollow needs my stuff early next week. And as much as I'd like for everyone to have one, I just don't think this is fair to me or my aunt.
So I think I'm just going to give up. If they don't give me their tables until the middle of next week or later, I'm going to say 'I'm sorry, but I've been asking for this for weeks and now its too late.' And I guess half the tables will not be numbered and half the guests will not know where to sit. It will cause a little chaos and that doesn't make me happy, but I've done everything humanly possible here...FH has also said something to them. So I guess if guests ask, I'm going to have to say 'FILs never finished their tables.'
I STILL plan do doing my little placecards for my people, it will just be FILs that are missing.
I'm not wrong to give up, am I?

you know what? just make your own tables for them and then be done with it. if they don't like it, oh well. clearly they don't care or they'd be on it and done. my FIL had his done in a few hours and handed it to me.

I think you can turn on the waterworks here... it's not fair to you that you've put all this work in to a detail that is important to you, and they are being inconsiderate in not giving you the information you need to make it a reality.
I'm sorry, but this is just rude of them. And NO, I would not give up on your placecard idea because they're being rude.

Do they live close? If so 'since they are done and typed' I would just show up at their house and ask for them. Put them on the spot. This way, it really shows how much effort you put into it. If not, then I say make your own table tables for them. Too bad if they are not the same sitting arrangements the FILS's would have made.

i can't really imagine how they look, such as the people's name and table #, but is their anyway you can make them up with the people's names and handwrite the table #'s afterwards, that way everyone willl have one

Seriously, just tell your FILs that if they don't give you the table seating, you'll do it for them and since you are the bride and deal with the hall, you have the last word. That should get them moving.

I would ask them to give you whatever they have done so this way you can at least do as much as you can. I ams orry that they are doing this to you and your aunt!!!

I agree. I would call them again and STRESS to them how important it is that you have them really soon. Maybe you can still get them in time.

I am getting married 3 weeks, and I am doing a favor/table assignment combo. My mother has been the one holding me back. I completely understand. Honestly, yesterday, I went over to her and stood on top of her until she finished them and gave them to me. That worked. I know it is my mother and not my MIL, so you need more tact. But I agree with you going over to her house and asking for the paper, if she doesn't have it, wait until she 'finds' it.

I would just go straight over there to get the list. If they cannot produce it, tell them they have two choices - their guests can have NO placecards and they can stand at the door and direct them, OR you can do the seating arrangements. Give them exactly 1 minute to decide (wear a watch with a second hand), and then walk out and don't look back.
