Read your local paper or check the net cuz I heard on NY1 this am that they are laying folks off & they're already in bankruptcy.

I too refuse to fly American Airlines

edited to say: United is laying folks off

Re: american or united

I have flown american to europe about 5 times in the past 6 years and flown them around the states a number of times. I prefer delta - but I have gotten nothing but horrible service on united (bags lost, problems about being bumped off of a flight not voluntarily and I was at the airport 3 hours ahead, and I could go on and on) I have not had any negative experience with American - my family flies them too. (hey the AA more leg room are the most comfortable flights of any of the airlines)

Why won't you all fly american?

Dont want to be a downer, but everytime there's a major crash, its on AA

I've never been a fan of AA and some may think this silly, but after 9/11 I have ZERO confidence in AA AT ALL! And as Lizlen pointed out, they have a pretty high ratio of crashes & problems in general. This is my personal preference/opinion tho. If its gonna happen, it will & nobody can do anything about it regardless of the airline used but . . . I prefer not to knowingly tempt fate. But again, this is my preference if AA works for you, go for it!

I fly American at least once a month, unless it is last minute and get stuck on a United flight. IMO, American has more leg room, better service (I have been delayed flying United EVERYTIME).
About the crash rate, I don't think that is true. I have flown them 15 times in the past year, they happen to be a larger airline (more flights=more chances) Stastically I think all airlines have the same risk. It is a risk you take flying.

i agree with Robeymouse. i ran into this same problem when FH said that getting the AA credit card might not be the best idea since they have the most crashes. but you cant just compare the #, you have to look at airline size.

Good points, I guess it boils down to what you feel comfortable with. AA just makes me nervous personally.

well basically these 2 airlines are giving me very similar prices for my honeymoon to san fran and maui, i hear that united could go under very soon, but i dont know if american is anymore stable. so my choice is between the 2 of them for a july flight

If you're usuing a reputable TA, and one of them goes under, they'll be able to fix it so you go w/the other.

chiming in to agree w. robeymouse as well, I fly a lot for work and prefer AA to United. If I had to choose, I would go Delta. But we are taking AA on our HM, and I am looking forward to having exit row seats, its like being in first class

The service on United is horrible. I am afraid to take AA.
