Amnio questions?

Amnio questions?

Hello Ladies

I am scheduled for an amnio in a few weeks and was wondering if any of you ladies could give me some input on what to expect? Originally, I wasn't going to do the Amnio, but being I will be 37 when the baby is born, my Dr. strongly recommended it.

Thanks.

Re: Amnio questions?

Hi!

I had an amnio. I was so nervous! First because I hate needles. Second, because I was afraid of what might happen to the baby.
It ended up being a really quick and painless procedure. I had it done at the University of Stony Brook OBGYN office off MarkTree Road in Setauket. The doctors were very nice and let me know what was going on during the whole procedure. My huband was with me for support and held my hand. I didn't look.

At first they take about 20 minutes for the sonogram to check the baby and determine where the best place to insert the needle is. The actually needle insertion and extraction lasts only about 30 secs and like I said was painless.

I had to rest the remainder of that day and did not have any cramping like some women do. I was just a little sore at the spot where they inserted the needle.

Try not to worry. The anxiety we cause ourselves is so much worse than the actual test. Good Luck!
