An interesting thing happened to me today!!!

I went to get my Mom, to take her for groceries; She came to the car, carrying the Sunday Newspaper, as is our practice. She said, ' Is this you?' She had made a note of page so-in-so. I told her, 'Mom, I didn't submit anything to the paper!!!!!' So, I turn to the page, and, began reading..... !!!!! Yep, my Mom knew!!! I have recently become a member of a local, online Moms group, just newly formed. I had written a small paragraph, about my 80 yr. old Mom, living not far from me, how I'm the designated Daughter(caretaker), since Brother lives out of state, and, how some days, it's hard for my 58 yr. old self, to feel up to caring for Mom, when I don't feel well, all the time, as I get older. So, I had seen that the moderators posted that our paper wanted to to do an article on the newly formed online Moms group, but I did not give permission for my quote to be used!! I don't mind posting in a generic way, on this local site, that other Moms my age can id with, but it bugged me that my quote was used and my Mom positively thought it was me!!! I didn't want her to feel like she's a burden!!!! I thought, since Mom does not go online, that it was safe for me to vent a bit about how the show must go on, even if I don't feel up to it some days, which are normal feelings for caregivers. It's just a bummer that I was not consulted before my quote was printed where my Mom could read it!!!! I don't plan to say anything to the moderators. Mom might be 80, but she's still a smart cookie!!!! Mary MOB

Im sorry that happened!!!! That is strange that they did not ask for permission to have your statements published!!!! I do understand where you are coming from!! At least they did not use your name!! I guess now be careful posting on that site!

I'm not a big fan of newspapers. They always add or take out things you say, and make it sound completely different than you intended!

I agree that happens, sometimes; The two moderators are young Mothers, and seem nice. They quoted me verbatim, but did not use my username. I don't think they thought I would mind; I'm a fairly open person, but I try to be careful, not to hurt peoples' feelings. I am not perfect, and do not always succeed in that dept. I don't think they thought it through. They probably did not realize my Mom even read the paper!! Unfortunately, now I will be more careful. Sometimes, as you girls know, it's nice to have a safe place, where one can vent if they need to, and get support from women in similar circumstaces, which is why I was transparent in writing that; I wanted other women/caretakers to feel safe to say, ' Hey, I don't always feel that great myself, but I'm responsible for taking care of this person.' And sometimes, it's an exhausting place to be, no matter how much we love our loved ones!! Thanks for listening!! Mary MOB
