I go to a very close knit church that consists of abour 120 members. We do everything together and we never have a 'major' event without inviting the whole church. However, I am getting married in NY, not Cali - as you know - and weddings in NY are expensive. Here is my problem - to be polite, I want to invite them to my wedding (but I dont really want anyone to show -- well, maybe 3 or 4 ppl) and I cant order an extra 100 invitations. We were thinking of just making a general announcement and posting the invite on the community board, but how do I say it by being polite. And how can we announce the RSVP. For most people it's Oct. 1, but I would like it to be earlier for them.
My biggest fear is that people will say 'Hey, I never been to NY before' and all these people that I like, but cant afford will show up. Do you see my dilemmna? Any recs?

If you're going to make an announcement, then you have to expect some people to come. Instead of sending out 100 invitations, why don't you get/make invitations that are the postcard style and have a perforated bottom for replies.

Youc ould make up 1 for the bulletin board or something & put on the bottom, ' call ( your #) 'if you would like to attend. Don't put the address onteh invite you hang up, so people will have to call you for details. just write Church name, Long Island, New york. If you have extra real ones, you can send them to the people that call you, so they have the actually invite with details.
So, if you were getting married in California, you'd have an extra 100 people attending? wow.

yes! someone is getting married and she invited everyone to the ceremony. and everyone plans on going! its nice and all, but SO EXPENSIVE.
i like the bulletin idea - just a copy of the invite without specific info. thanks!

Im going to stray from what you want and suggest you have a small reception in california with your fellow church parishoners. Maybe the church has a basement or something. Then you can flash pictures of the ceremony at the gathering. But like you stated if you invite everyone you run the risk of having them go to NY since its a good reason to go!!

I was thinking about that - but frankly, i cant afford to do that! I think they will throw us a reception dinner when we get back, but I still we still need to through the invite out.
Oh well - I think the bulletin board is the best bet and I will just pray that it wont get out hand.

I think this is a perfect solution! I hope for your sake that everyone isn't up for a trip to NY!!
