Did anyone know the rhyme actually goes 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe'? I surely didn't until FH told me so!
Apparently, the tradition of a silver sixpence in her shoe is of Scottish descent (FH is part Scottish). The groom would put a sixpence in his shoe as a sign of prosperity for the marriage as well as financial luck. Then the bride started wearing it.
How interesting! Just bought my silver sixpence on eBay. Maybe I'll glue it in the shoe? Sounds uncomfortable.

I just heard this recently too! Maybe glue it to the underside of your shoe, on the slanted arch between the heel and the bed of the foot, so you don't have to be feeling it in your shoe all night but still have it on your foot? lol
I am the daughter of a podiatrist so I can strongly recommend against walking around on a sixpence all night! lol

ok so I had to look on ebay to see what this was but it looks like they make sixpence pendant mounts so maybe you could add it to your bouquet? Just a thought since in the shoe does sound kinda uncomfy!
