'and Guest' or 'and Family' written on the outer envelope?

I have to give my list to the calligrapher on how I want our envelopes printed. Is this proper etiquette to put 'and guest' or 'and family on the outside? TIA

I would not put and guest on the outter envelope. I would put either 'The Smith Family' or 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith'. On the inner envelope put the parents on one line and the kids on the next, in age order.

I had seen in a previous post that the and Guest should only go on the inner envelope. Let me see if I saved it.

Sorry I can't find it

Exactly. I've read that it should say 'Mr. Michael Smith' on the outside, then 'Mr. Smith & Guest' on the inside.

What if there is no inner envelope and only an outer envelope??

I would put that on the inner envelopes if you have them.

Ok! Thanks. I put there boyfriends/girlfriends names on the outside though if they have been together for awhile. Right?

Yeah - I put significant others names on the outside. I just did the and guest on the inside!
