And it starts

And it starts

This is the only holiday FH and I always argue about. Thanksgiving, Easter, and everything else we just go where were invited. Christmas eve and Christmas day is a battle and even when we split it, it becomes a battle over where to go for dinner and where to go for dessert. UGH!!!

Re: And it starts

I'm not sure what I'm doing Christmas eve or day. FH is going to a football game with his bestman Christmas eve so that leaves me alone during the day. I might head to my mothers during that time. Then maybe my dads at night once FH gets back. Christmas day FH has his daughter so we will likely open up presents with her and then maybe go to his parents home.

Good luck figuring your day out!! lol

I hate that! Luckily we no longer fight over this. FH had a few family issues when we first started dating, and we ended up doing all holidays with my family. Now since theyre on better terms, FH wants to dessert only with them. He has a specific family member he cant stand, so he doesnt like to be there for any extended period of time. Im not complaining.

I have the same issue.. Christmas Eve/Day and & New Years Eve/Day.. so annoying!

We luck out on Thanksgiving because my mom does it super early.

Christmas Eve his family has a big party and they dance and get wasted. LOL. We have a traditional Portugese meal & just hang out until midnight.. when 'someone' gets picked to dress up as Santa and hand out gifts. Mind you, we have no children in the family. Christmas day is also a big deal at my house when at his everyone is just sleeping off their hangovers. So, his idea was to go to his for Christmas Eve and come back to mine on Christmas Day.. but I feel bad! It's only me & my brother for my parents.. and he has 3 other siblings and 5 nieces/nephews.

New Year's Day is FH's brothers birthday so he'll refuse to spend it at my house.. I hate the holidays sometimes!

My family always use to have one of the uncle dress up at Santa. Two of my uncles don't have kids so they use to switch. They stopped it about 5 years ago when the youngest cousin was 15. Now my cousin have a 3 year old daughter so we might bring it back this year!

Holidays are tough! FH and I usually share the days. Last year we did his family for Thanksgiving and mine for Christmas, so this year we did mine for Thanksgiving and we'll do his for Christmas (I'm working in the morning too which sucks). Its worked out pretty well for us

I mean.... we're not married yet, so we don't make this an issue until it has to be one haha

I spend holidays with my family and he spends holidays with his.

Although, my fiance has been coming over for dessert on Thanksgiving & Easter night because his family doesn't do any thing at night on those holidays. And I have been going over for Easter morning brunch & for dessert on Christmas night, since my family makes a bigger deal over Christmas Eve and (obviously) Christmas morning.

It's worked out pretty well so far, but who knows what will happen when we get married! ;)

aw! that can be rough
Luckily, FH is FDNY and works most holidays-which he should. My brothers are FDNY also, so I'm used to celebrating events on a different day. I usually hang with my parents but will visit his for dessert. Fortunately, his fam does xmas eve, while we take xmas day!
If we have kids, it will get tricky with his siblings and mine... hmm I kinda envy those couples with mixed religious backgrounds!

Re: And it starts

Since we bought our house last November we hosted Christmas Eve so we could have both families around. It was such a hit that we have now been elected to host Christmas Eve every year I def. don't mind since I love dressing up the house. Then Christmas we head over to watch his nephew open gifts because it's just tooo cute

My parents know the drill. We switch Thanksgiving every year. For example, this year we were with his family..next year we will be with my family.

Christmas is ALWAYS the same. Christmas Eve is spent with his family and Christmas day is with my family. Often this means us jumping in the car on Christmas morning and heading down to Maryland to be with my family--but we always enjoy it. We grab a cup of coffee turn on the Christmas music and enjoy having that quiet time.

It's never an argument anymore--try to make a routine that way you never guess what is going on next year!

FH works most of the time for holidays. In the past, when he did have off, we took turns on whose family we spent it with. Now that we are engaged, the holiday locations will be switched every year. If I spend this Christmas with his family, then I will spend the next one with my family.
