and you think YOU are going to get wierd gifts?

So, my fiance's grandparents have given us a roasting pan. Like, I guess for roasting a chicken or something, because it's not big enough for a turkey. With a cover. Stainless steel. Not off the registry, in no way matches my set.

But whatever, right? It's random, I'd probably never use it, but it's not completely strange.

But wait.

My fiance's mom hands me the bag and says 'I have something for you from grammy and pops'.

She then says 'it's not really a gift... they bought it for Kim. But it's never been used.'

Kim is my fiance's aunt. She passed away two weeks ago. Her parents bought her a roasting pan, and then she DIED, so they're passing it on to us! What am I supposed to do with this thing? I don't want it anyway, and now every time I use it I'm going to be thinking about this woman and how she died before she got to use her roasting pan.

I think I'm going to ask FH if he minds if we give it to Goodwill, because I honestly just can't use it. I saw her in the hospital before she died, and I really don't need to have that mental image every time I want to roast something.

Ug. But what else am I supposed to do? What would you do?

That is REALLY strange. I know you loathe this pan.. but I would keep it on hand for a little while if space isnt an issue. God forbid the grandparents come over and want roasted chicken it would be awkward to explain that its gone.

Im sure the grandparents meant well... I give grandparents a free pass on doing strange things...

ha, fortunately, I don't know that his grandparents are really together enough to notice that it's gone.

Right now we're not even living together, and I'm keeping all of our engagement gifts in the attic here at my parents house (where I live) until we move in together, so by the time that happens, I'm pretty positive they will have forgotten all about it.

But you're right, I'm sure they meant well, and grandparents definitely get excused on a lot of things. But just so strange!
