Animal shelter-volunteer

I want to start volunteering at an animal shelter and I know a lot of girls on here do this. Do you have any recommendations of places in nassau county? I saw freeportanimalshelter.com but I dont have any experience with them

Re: Animal shelter-volunteer

we recently adopted a cat from Last Hope rescue. Since then, they have started to operate the former BideaWee in Wantagh. Our kitten was fostered by their volunteers and has a lovely disposition which I think is in part due to their care. they interview potential adoptees and ask for references which they do check so I think they try to be careful in finding homes.

I don't have experience with working for them but my contacts during the adoption were all good. They have some of the available cats shown at Pet Supplies Plus in Massapequa with a sign that volunteers are desperately needed. So your help would be appreciated.

So you might want to try checking with them. The # I have, which may have changed due to their move is 631-425-1884.

I volunteer at the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter.

The Town shelters need the most help but it is not easy because they are not no kill. The shelters really have been working to make it as close to no kill as possible.

In Nassau County there is Last Hope in Wantagh (no kill)
North Shore Animal League in Port Washington (no kill)
Bobby and the Strays in Freeport (no kill)
Town of Oyster Bay (town shelter)
Town of North Hempstead (town shelter)
Town of Hempstead (I dont think they are letting volunteers yet)
