While at the DJ yesterday they told me about this Anniversary dance. Basically it is instead of the Bouquet toss. All married couples are on the dance floor and slowly the MC says 'everyone married less than a day leave the floor... everyone married less than a year leave the floor... 5 years... 10 years etc' until the longest married couple is on the dance floor. At that point the bouquet is presented to that couple (probably our grandparents)
Have any of you girls done this/are planning on doing this?
What are your thoughts on this idea?

Re: Anniversary Dance
I like this idea... and I've seen it done, it's very sweet...
but I wanna do my bouquet toss since almost ALLLL of my friends are single... so I think i'm going to get a little gift to give to the anniversary couple and have the song be their wedding song.
Orrrrr, I'll do the bouquet toss with a throwaway and give my real bouquet to the anniversary couple.

Re: Anniversary Dance
that's a good idea with the throw away and real bouquet
i have to calculate how many girls are single.. a lot of my friends are married already so I don't want to do a bouqet toss to 2 people lol

Re: Anniversary Dance
yes, my DJ called it the Generation Dance. I like that idea a lot and have seen it at plenty of weddings. However, I did not want it to take the place of my bouquet toss. I think it's such a cute tradition to throw it to all the single gals. I think you also need to consider your guest list and the couples who will be there. if you don't really have any 'old couples' then it might just be an awkward dance. lol. I dunno, that's my opinion at least.
When I was planning my wedding though, I did want to do both. I had it arranged that at the end of the generation dance, rather than getting the bouquet & garter (since we were tossing those) they got a bottle of wine or champagne. But my DJ forgot to do it Oh well.

Re: Anniversary Dance
We're having the dance. Definitely not doing the toss, I used to hate being dragged out there, lol.

Re: Anniversary Dance
We are definitly doing it and this is one part of the reception I am very excited about. I think its something really nice to do. Plus, we are pretty much the last of our single friends and family to marry so there would really be no one up there. We are using 'remember when' by alan jackson which I think is perfect!

It's very sweet... I've seen it done at a couple of wedding's I've been to. We are not doing the bouquet/garter toss but I don't think we will be doing this either (my parents are divorced and I just feel it would be a kick in the stomach to my mom to have that as part of the evening). At one point during the evening I have a song in mind that I would like to dedicate/dance with FH so maybe I will do that then and everyone can join in.

Re: Anniversary Dance
We did it - it was very nice - actually DH's parents won they were married 53 years at the time we got married - there was actually another couple - the priest who gave the blessing - who had been a family friend for years - he & his wife had been married 58 years - but b/c they were too old/frail to dance - they couldnt participate - I felt bad - b/c I really felt they should have won...another story for another time - but we loved having the anniversary dance!

Re: Anniversary Dance
We heard about this at our DJ meeting as well ... I think its an adorable idea and I would LOVE if my parents won! The way it seems is we only have a few single girls, but I may do the boquet toss. The other idea I had was making an announcement and instead bringing it to my future mother in law's burial site ...
