Re: Anniversary Dance or Garter Toss??

It really depends on your crowd. Do you have alot of single people that will actually get on the floor for the garter toss??
Or do you have more married people then single people??? That was the case for us so we decided the Anniversary dance was a better option for us. We have just been to sooo many wedding where no one wants to go up for the garter toss and it winds up looking silly

I like the garter toss. Some of the best moments at a reception occur during this. As a guest at a bunch of weddings, this is always one of the best parts to watch!

I did the Anniversary Dance, however, DH still took my garter off, and gave it to me great uncle(who was the oldest married couple) and had to put it on my great aunt. It was a HIT!!!

I'm traditional so I'll prob stick with the garter toss. But I don't understand why you can't do both just to celebrate in everyone else's marriages.

I just hate the garter toss and always have. I know some people love this, but I find it so cheesy and started hiding in the bathroom at weddings when the bouquet throwing took place. I would love to know how and when this became a wedding 'tradition'

Whew, OK, I am done now.

I too started hiding in bathrooms, so I'll be doing the anniversary dance.

Never liked the garter toss either and I love the idea of the Anniversary dance - Thanks LIW - so we'll be doing that instead.

We did the Anniversary Dance, the couple who won were married 39 years. Here is a picture of Phil and I presenting them with a bouquet of flowers:

it all depends on the crowd you are having . if they are single and not shy to go up then do it..
me on the other hand i am NOT doing it for the simple fact all my friends are involved and fh friends would be too shy to go up anyway lol

Haha, me too.

I had so few single people at my wedding that it would have been embarrassing for the few unattached people. So we did an anniversary dance and we gave the winning couple a Wedding Day Yankee Candle.

We're doing the anniversary dance (maybe). Definitely not the garter/bouquet toss thing. No one in our crowd is single, plus wedding I've been at no one is interested...you have to be pulled on to the floor...

We're not doing either, but I do think that the anniersary dance is a very nice idea. I'm wearing a garter, but not having it tossed.

We did the anniversary dance knowing my grandparents would be the last dancing at 54 years!! We gave them our throw-a-way which I purposely had made in silk flowers so it would be a keepsake for them from my wedding. Our guests commented on what a nice touch it was.

I read a post here once where everyone gets up for each (garter and boquet) then the person who catches it (single or taken) dances with the bride and groom... just an idea

Re: Anniversary Dance or Garter Toss??

I dont want to do the anniversary dance because FH and I have lost all our grandpas and I dont want them to think about it.

I was telling my mom how I want to give my BQ to my grandma, but I was thinking - SHE deserves it more than anyone. The father walks you down the aisle, they get their dance, WHAT ABOUT THE MOM?

I think my mom had a much bigger hand in personally raising me and I KNOW there will be MANY tears when I surprise her with it, but thats what Im going to do!

Now do I give her my BQ or the throw away I already ordered?
