annoyed

How do you handle people last minute wanting to bring their kids when your tables are already stacked to the max? When you purposely didn't invite any kids cuz there is just no room! When there is no way possible to even rearrange the seating charts that I spent four hours with my FH putting together just yesterday!! When if we say, no, we will probably be insulting the entire side of that family!!

What really pisses me off, this couple didn't even rsvp til a week or so ago....3 weeks past the rsvp date. My FSIL had to call them to find out.

You tell them straight up - I'm sorry but I do not have room to accommodate your children. Our wedding reception is for adults only for that reason.

I agree. I think at every wedding someone is always offended so you just have to be straight forward. I already have three unwanted guests on my rsvps and I jsut started recieving them last week. A distant uncle, and two boyfirends pruposely left out b/c they are idiots!

The only children we are allowing are my FH's.

Re: annoyed

My mom had a 'No kids' wedding-people asked and she said no-if they couldn't find a babysitter-they didn't come. We are having kids but only close cousins, our niece, etc. If someone asks and we have the room then sure. If we don't have the room, then no.

We are having the ringbearer and the flower girl at the reception...they are really the only kids coming...and they are children of members of our bridal party! But I know that it still won't look good that there technically are kids there and they couldn't bring their own.
I would love to be straightforward but my FH is going to deal with the situation and he is a pushover.

You need to tell them - nicely but firmly - that their children may not come to your wedding. If they cannot find a babysitter, then that is their problem. There is a reason you did not invite kids - stick to your guns! If your FH is a pushover, then you might want to speak to these people yourself or recruit a stronger-willed member of FH's family to deliver the news.

I hope everything works out for you!

Tell them ABSOLUTELY not! It's not worth the trouble to have children there. My FHs son will be the only child there and he is being picked up shortly after the introduction of the bridal party (he's the RB).

Well, if they'd called you months ago and asked and sent in their RSVP on time, that would be one thing, I'd say work with it if it's possible....BUT they did NOT do that and therefore, I see NO reason for YOU to have to be stretched to the max for them...they even RSVPd LATE! Tell them sorry and if they don't come b/c of it, oh well.

If you are having no kids, then tell them 'sorry, no kids'.

Honestly, we made a first cousin rule, any first cousins were invited. So, we had issues with MY first cousin being annoyed b/c DH's little 7 year old cousin was there and her 7 year old couldn't come. But that was our rule and we stuck to it! And I would have thought she would have understood b/c she didn't have ANY kids, not even her first cousins (except me and I was in the wedding party and my sis)!

The people who you don't think will give you problems totally do!

You need to stick to your word and say no children!
What can they do, say they don't want to come?! They'll get over it! IMO it's really not a place for children!

Thanks for everyones input! My FH called and was firm and they actually understood. We really thought it would be more of a headache...given this person's history, but hey, I feel bad now that I freaked out the way I did. I just don't like to be put in positions where I have to dissapoint people. But its true, young kids + an 8:00 friday night wedding= badness written all over it. When young kids go past their bedtime, all hell breaks loose!

and yes, we had to lug my 5 year old (4 then) to a graduation party on a friday night b/c all of us were invited (and there were other kids there) and we had no one who could babysit...she got a little nutty by midnight when the party wasn't over, but we couldn't keep getting on to her any longer!

I agree - it may seem hard to say and do, but you have to stand up for yourself and the decision you and FH made ahead of time.
