No you're not wrong. BUT the mistake you made was telling them about the party at all. Better off just leaving at your usual time and just heading over to the other party. If your DH's friends decide to leave to attend the other party, it should be because they want to go, and that's their decision to make, not your IL's.
You are not wrong-if it were me I would discuss it with your hubby and end up going to both parties.
i don't think your wrong at all...i do think its rude for your MIL to tell you not to go to your friends party...I would go t o your friends and have a good time...in the future keep your IL's on a need to know basis...unless is directly involves them, they really don't need to know what you and your DH are doing.
So you are going to go to the party and not sleeping over your IL's? I'm assuming you've done this in the past? the party that is....so this one time you make plans with your friend and your not sleeping over? its not the end of the world...you and your DH should be out having fun doing what you both want.
oh i see...well obviously your MIL thinks that if you go to this other party i guess hers is less important...I agree with you...this whole situation is silly, i still say go to your friends party and enjoy yourself, don't feel guilty...you can split your time evenly...
