Annoyed with invitation vendor - WWYD

Annoyed with invitation vendor - WWYD

Soo...I paid my materials fee.

I added a few services and I asked for a revised service quote. She realized she made a mistake on the materials fee and without saying anything just added to my materials fee.

I wrote to her and said I signed a contract and as far as I'm concerned my materials fee is paid in full. WHat I got back is below. I'm kind of annoyed. It didn't automatically recalculate. She noticed it and changed it without saying anything to me. If I hadn't added more services, I would not have gotten a new invoice and would never be paying the fee. WWYD?

For some reason, on your original quote, the price of the white micah paper was $0.00 instead of $0.50. It must have readjusted itself when I recalculated your invoice just now.
As for signing off on a contract with the materials fee set at $492, the fees are not part of your contract. The contract is contracting the company to do your invitations and outlines what your (and my) rights and regulations are regarding the services provided. There is a paragraph that pertains to the price quote, saying that if an error is made prior to you paying your materials fee, I will notify you immediately and send you a revised quote. I've just realized I have nothing in there that pertains for errors noticed after the fees are paid, so there isn't anything that, necessarily, forces you to pay the difference and there isn't anything that, necessarily, tells me the difference is forfeited. Furthermore, the only obligation I have in bearing the responsibility of noticing an error is in producing an accurate quote...there is no language that tells of your responsibilities after receiving the quote. So, we've got a quandry...

I guess I'll leave it up to you and what you think is right. I know what I would do if I were in your position, but it would not be ethical of me to force that upon you in a client/vendor relationship. It's a loophole, plain and simple. If you feel justified in taking advantage of it, then you are free to do so.

For the record I think it was sneaky and I think she's being a b___ about it.

I would respond a lot better to 'oh gosh, I forgot to put this in. I realize this may put it higher than what you budgeted. Can we split the difference?'

Wow, that's a really passive aggressive response... 'If you feel justified in taking advantage of it, then you are free to do so.' Really?

Here's how I see it - she made a mistake, and I'm sure if she brought it up to you (instead of just slipping it into the new quote as if you wouldn't notice), you would be more apt to pay for the difference. I feel like this was a sneaky way to go about it, and when you caught her she tried to flip it on you.

If I were the vendor, I would eat the cost of the paper before writing an email like that...but that's just me.

By the way, how much $$ are we talking about?

Hmmm.. You know the situation best. if you believe she misled you as far as the price goes then do not pay more. If you feel it was an innocent mistake and there is probably no way in hell anything costs 0.00 then you might want to at least offer half of the cost.

She doesn't sound like she does business very well. A quote is a quote. Had she left the paper off the quote I think she would have a better case but since the items was listed with zero cost she should live up to that quote.

Do you mind FM the name of who you are working with seems like a lot of people are having issue and invitations are next on my list.

Wow thats really not right at all... If she made a mistake in the first place she has no right to just adjust it herslef without letting you know! That to me was very sneaky and I would be PO-ed!!!! Not to mention her email really wasnt to nice either...She made the mistake you signed a contract... and shes saying materials are not part of the contract now? so that means if she wanted to she can just change the prices of the materials whenever she wants? Noooo way!

I wouldn't mind splitting the difference. I feel like she tried to sneak it by me and then question MY morals.

Umm, I'm spending close to $1000, are you seriously going to be this b----y and ride over like 40 bucks?

It's not the amount of money but the principle of the thing, and I ave added a lot of stuff, so I'm spending like $200 more than I was originally going to.

I don't even know how to respond to her. I am like really offended but I don't want to get into a fight with someone who already has $500 of my money and is currently printing my invites.

I agree.. It is hard to respond to something like that. I wish I had a good advice on how to respond.

wait, the difference is really $40? i'm kind of baffled by that at this point. if you're spending $1000 with her and she made a $40 error, that email should have NEVER been sent to you. that is completely rude.

i think if i were you, i would send her the $40 with a sassy little email. but i'm a b*tch like that haha

is there a reason why instead of being nice since it was her error.. shes being a smart A$$$$$ ??? How rude

Re: Annoyed with invitation vendor - WWYD

You are right about her not being up front rather than just sending a new revised invoice without an explanation. For 40 bucks, if I were her I would just have pointed out the mistake and waved the fee. I think its a bit stingy to ask after you are paying over 1K and it was not your mistake. You might want to be the bigger person and let her know you will give her 20.00 to cover the mishap.

Yeah that's what is getting me. And the fact that she basically snuck it in. On the 5 previous quotes I got, the price was the same..there is NO WAY, it suddently 'Automatically' changed. I don't buy that.

have your FH call! She should be sort of embarassed to make you feel like that over 40.00!

Re: Annoyed with invitation vendor - WWYD

from my own experiences..I eat cost on anything that results from my own mistakes, however when actual cost exceeds the quote, we usually let the client know and make sure it is ok with them. If it isn't ok, or they are annoyed by it, then we work something out. At the end of the day we want to make the client happy and if it means eating a small cost then we do it.

Everyone makes mistakes...but if you feel she was being sneaky or trying to get money out of you then I wouldn't pay it. If you had a great experience and you think she was honest and brought it up to you then I would pay it or pay half.

HTH!

ETA: Just read that it was $40 diff....as a vendor I would eat that cost.

that's quite disappointing esp since i'm using this person. but given your situation, she should've really just eaten up that cost - esp since it was only $40 and it wasn't your fault. sorry

Personally, I would've paid the fee... until I read this paragraph. Hmph, I suppose there's a reason she's banned from LIW, right? You're looking at it!
