Anonymous Poll!

Anonymous Poll!

Ok, we can keep this COMPLETELY anonymous to prevent the drama that will most likely ensue if we start making comments...

But, once we got engaged, how many of us HONESTLY expected that 'someone' (be it parents, grandparents, or in-laws) would just automatically start picking up the tab for our wedding?

Not for one second did I expect my parents or FILs to pay for it. Plus I don't think FH & I would allow them to. Illove that we are paying for it all

I did not 'expect' that anyone would be paying for our wedding but us & planned accordingly however, we were pleasantly surprised when my in-laws gave us 2 very generous gifts to use as we saw fit. They also insisted on paying for ALL of the Tuxes. Also my mom & stepfater were very generous and gave us our HM as a wedding gift.

my fiance and I are paying for the whole wedding ourselves.. I wouldnt even think it would be right to expect my parents or his parents to pay for it..

I definitly don't expect a penny from anyone...however, I'd can't say I'd turn down any offers! When it comes down to it, I'm so proud that we're going to pay for almost everything! It makes it that much more special for us.

i never thought my parents would pay for my wedding. not b/c they can't, but b/c, i was 27 when i got engaged and have been supporting myself, bill wise, for a number of years.

my parents are paying for the dj, and his are paying for the RD. i'm very grateful for that and don't expect anything more.

I don't mean to offend anyone here... but i feel that this post only adds to the drama. And if anything, you're making a particular girl feel worse about the whole thing and i happen to think that many misinterpreted her frustration. If i was her... the way she was treated... i wouldn't come back on here and that's a shame! We're not here to make people feel worse! JMHO... like i said, i don't mean to offend anyone.

I agree that we don't want a repeat of this morning's drama (that's why I said that we could keep this anonymous)

I am not going to close the poll or have the thread deleted for fear that someone will get offended. If that were the case, we'd have to delete quite a few posts- from all of the boards.

So, let's try to make sure that this does not become a drama thread

in my culture, the parents are expected to pay for the wedding.

I was recently reading about this in an industry mag (commercial real estate class I'm in).

This is the article.
Wedding Mall in India

I was surprised to see that 10 years of savings can go into a wedding and that it's EXPECTED that the bride's family pays. Very interesting read
