Went to look at a few more reception halls today. This is starting to get frustrating. I feel so limited by my 50-60 person guest list but that is all the people we really know. I don't want to invite strangers off the street just to make a minimum. I went to look at The Inn at Great Neck, Milleridge Inn & Carriage House, North Ritz Club, and Huntington Townhouse.
Inn at Great Neck Not for us at all. No outdoor area for photos or ceremony. No outdoor area period. On a busy street with no pull in for parking. I had trouble finding a spot. Pretty much a nothing is included in price place.
Milleridge Inn & Carriage House I didn't like the Inn itself for my wedding. You have to walk through the restaurant to get to the rooms. The decor was not my style, looked dated and worn. No nice place for a ceremony. I'm not sure where I would be able to take my pics. Did not spot too many nice photo ops. Then I went to look at the Carriage house and thought it was really nice. The prices are fantastic, ~$55pp on a Sunday afternoon in September. I think only $80pp on a Saturday night. I liked that it was private you have the whole carriage house building and area for your party. In front they set up a tent outside where you can have a small cocktail hour, weather permitting. Also that's where I would do my ceremony. I didn't like that the tent poles run down the middle of the tent and my walk down the aisle will be pushed to one side and the tent poles might get in the way of people seeing me or of photos. We'll keep this one in mind as our lower cost option.
North Ritz Club Noticed it while driving by and decided to stop and check it out. 100 minimum. I left as soon as I walked in, LOL. Scratch that.
Huntington Townhouse Another wasted effort. I believe I noticed on a website or something that they would do parties of 50 people but I must have been wrong. I sat down with Steven and told him we plan to only have about 50-60 guests and he said 100 minimum. ARGGGHHHH!!! This is when I quit my search for the day.
I'm going to keep looking but nothing has really jumped out at me the way Westbury Manor did. It's perfect for us. Beautiful grounds for photos, 50 person minimum for Hill room, Pretty outdoor ceremony site, and a million other little things. I'm just trying to find something comparable but a little cheaper I guess.

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
Hi,
I'm actually not having my ceremony on LI so I don't really frequent these boards often, but if you would like to keep your guest list small and would consider getting married in the city, you should consider having ithe reception at a restaurant in Manhattan. There are many girls on another wedding website that have smaller weddings and have chosen to hold their receptions there.
Just a suggestion.

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
Yeah I looked into Candela but it was way to much $ for me. I really want to find a place with beautiful gardens for pics & an outdoor ceremony option, so a restaurant wouldn't work for me. Thanks.

I COMPLETELY recommend the Westbury Manor!!!!
They have a room that will hold smaller parties, the food is OUTSTANDING, the grounds are simply breathtaking.
FM M&S Sept12006, she was married in the Hill Room upstairs.
You can also FM me with any questions. I was married there on 10/30/05.

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
Thanks for the info. Fiance and I are really leaning toward Westbury Manor. I looked up M&S Sept12006's profile and looked through her pics. It looks like she had a beautiful wedding. I liked looking at pics of the Hill room because I completely forgot what it looked like.
I did look at the Swan Club but fiance didn't like the small room. He said he would love it if we got the bigger room in the middle ( Contessa room??) but the guarantee for that room I think was like 80 or 100 people.

Here's a link to some of our proofs (more on pg 2)...you can see more of the outside and ceremony in the garden chapel. If you want to see anything specifically let me know...I can FM them to you. LINK to some proofs - WM

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
Wow, thanks. You pics can out gorgeous as well. I'm getting tired of the never ending search. I'm going to talk to FH later and asks what he thinks about Westbury Manor as our place. He'll probably be happy. All I hear out of him everytime we go to look somewhere is 'It's not as nice as Westbury Manor'. I love your fall theme! I'm thinking of doing that as well. How cute are those jerseys with you date, lol.

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
did you try the coral house - they have the nantucket room - very pretty not sure of the minimum though
my bil got married at waters edge in long island city - they had a sunday night wedding and only about 70 people. the food was great and it overlooks the city so the pics are amazing
my mil got married at the harrison house in glen cove - now called something else - also had a small wedding and it was great
not sure of the prices but i would look into them best of luck

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
Yeah I looked there today. I didn't like the rooms in the Inn but I did like the carriage house. The price is great too. I'm just worried about having places to take my pics. I wanted a RH with nice gardens so I could do my pics onsite. Also a little worried about my ceremony option. It would be under a tent outside in front of the carriage house but the tent poles run right up the middle and I would have to do my walk down the aisle toward the left and the tent poles might obstruct guest's vision and photos.

Maureen did you try either Fox Hollow or the Inn at New Hyde Park? They both have similar characteristics to Westubury Manor.

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
I went to Fox Hollow but they said there minimum was 100 and they only book smaller parties within 6 months of the date I just tried to look at the website for the Inn at New Hyde Park but it's under construction. Do you know if it has any outdoor areas for photos or ceremony? Thant's important to FH and I. Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
They are doing major outdoor renovations which will be done in about a year or less. They are building a whole gorgeous outside area. They showed me the specs and it looks beautiful, their parking is cr*p right now but they are also doing a whole new parking area too. The place is family owned and the people were so nice when I met with them. I met with the daughter (can't remember her name). They were a very reasonable price for a Saturday night, I'm not sure what their minimum was though. Probably call up first so you don't waste a trip incase it's a lot. Glad I can help

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
you are getting married married in 2009....you have plenty of time to find a place. take a deep breath and just let it rest for a while. you'll find a place that will hold your smaller guest list...it just might take more digging and searching. maybe you could marry IN central park and hold the reception at a restaurant like someone suggested...you'd get the best of both worlds...a nce place for your guests to celebrate and an absolutely beautiful outdoor area for pics...and there's always pics around manhattan!
good luck!!!!!

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
I can't believe you were quoted $90 per head on a Saturday night at the Carriage house. When I called they told me the price was $125+ and you had to guarantee a min of 175 for the carriage house (I never even went to look because of the min and the price was a little higher than we were looking for.)
Interesting....
Don't give up hope--you'll find it! Check out the Riviera in Massapequa...I think they do smaller parties on Sundays.

I don't think that was the Carriage House because the Carriage House only holds 75-130 people.

Re: Another attempt at finding the hall of my dreams
Try the miller beach surf club in miller place. They do parties of 50-120 people. It is small, but very nice. You can customize the food if you want too.
