Me and FH decided we do NOT want any kids at our wedding....it's just too many kids and they are at $60 pp...so we feel like its a waste...the only 'kids' will be his sisters 2-who are actually in our wedding party. He also has 3 first cousins who are 4, 5, and 12, who will also be in our wedding party.
Well, we were going over the list the other day, and his mom included FH's first cousins kids, so they are actually his 2nd cousins..,I'm like, sorry, no way...and his mother gave me a weird look. She said that FH's aunt would be very offended...well too bad!!!! NO kids were invited to our engagement party, and we liked it like that....How do I tell her AND other people that ask, in a NICE way, that they're kisd arent invited?

I used:
'oh, I can't wait to see little Billy. Unfortunately, with finances the way they are, John and I just can't swing adding kids onto the list. There are so many in our families and we can't pick some, but not others, so unfortunately, we have to have a blanket 'no kids' rule'. I really do looking forward to seeing little Billy again soon.

This is something that your FH should talk to his Mom about. It's tricky but you don't want to be the bad guy in this situation. Mom can't disliked their own children.
Edited to say: as for other people, we are saying that we want to be able to have an adult reception to give parents a night out.

We are doing the same thing. The only kids are FH first cousins which are all 16 and younger. Plus my nephew. That is it. We told people that we are not having kids at the wedding unless they are in the immediate family. Second cousins are not....
I would have Fh talk to his mom. Good luck!

I still do not understand why people have this desperate need to have small children at adult functions. I realize that family is important but sometimes it just creates problems. Even the small children in my bridal party are ALL GOING HOME with babysitters after the cocktail hour (including my nephew) so their parents can enjoy themselves without worry.

I don't understand why people don't get why we don't want kids at a wedding. Yeah, they're great in the beginning, but then they get tired and start whinning or crying. I don't get why parents would want to bring them either. Have a night out alone and enjoy themselves.
I wouldn't even make it a money issue. The only thing that might be a snag is inviting your first cousins. You're going to have to dance your way around it or not invite them by taking a stance 'no kids'. Obviously brothers and sisters are acceptable.

Just be honest and tell people that you really have to put a cap on the number of guests and you just simply cannot afford to have the kids. Besides, it's your wedding, you make the decisions, other people will just have to go along with it.

Re: Another babies at wedding question.....
Hey Jeanine, We are having the same problem! It's not that I don't want the kids there....as a matter of fact there are at least 5 kids that I really do want there, but there are alot more kids than that and it is alot of $ for them and I don't think they'd even want to be there! .... That said, I think that you have to draw the line somewhere and it is perfectly acceptable to have only the kids that are in your bridal party.

Re: Another babies at wedding question.....
I have a similar problem, seems to be common huh? We decided that if they are in the wedding (my niece and nephews) or if they are 1st cousins (one of my cousins and 2 of his) we would invite them. Other than that, there are no children. It was actually a bit harder for us than my sister who was married in July. She had a saturday night wedding (so most would be up way past bedtime) and I'm having a saturday day wedding, so not the same excuse. Oh well, I missed a few of my cousin's weddings because I wasn't the acceptable age. So they better not have a problem with it. Denise
