im sure if you're close with them and/or worked with them for a good amount of time, a lot of people do invite but ive only worked with him since september and he is really really cool, and young so we get along very well but i just dont know if i should invite him with his fw to the wedding. i dont want to do anything in appropriate in the first place and secondly and more importantly, i feel weird about him giving a gift. oh and last thing is, i dont want him to feel obligated to invite me to his wedding next october especially since inviting someone below you is even weirder (imo)
fyi- i work in a big corporate company if that makes a difference...i feel like it does because i think with a small business, i would not be questioning this and just invite him

Re: another boss question, inviting?
I have thought about this also, and in particular the whole gift-giving thing makes me a little uncomfortable. I think I am sticking to inviting only co-workers who are more or less at the same 'level' that I am, and no one senior.

Personally, I would still invite them. He might not even go but I bet he'll be honored to have been invited!

do you see yourself staying there for a long time? also if he feels weird about it he'll just decline the invite.
for me, i work in a very tight knit department. there are 17 of us, and if I invite one i'd have to invite them all. 17x2 = 34 = way too many people. I just can't do it.

Re: another boss question, inviting?
i see myself staying here for a couple of more years, yes if God willing, there are no lay offs, etc.
i think the big factor is that he is like only a few years older than me and we have a relationship as if we're on the same level but we arent in actuality so that's what makes it weird i guess.

I would invite him. I'm inviting my boss but we've been working together for 4 years, so can't imagine not inviting him. If you're not sure about inviting him, then wait until you're planning on sending invites and see if you are closer with him at that point. I think he would feel honored.

I'm stumped on this one too. My immediate supervisor isn't even really my 'boss' - so, how high up the ladder do you go with invites??

Re: another boss question, inviting?
people appreciate being invited and if they don't want to go, they'll rsvp no. i would err on the side of inviting.
in my case, however, i work in a 600+ person law firm but my department is 10 people. that's 10 people and 10 spouses. i can't afford 20 more guests so i'm not inviting any of them (even tho there are a few i am closer with - but still not 'close').

Re: another boss question, inviting?
Personally I would invite him. He's ur boss so I'm sure he'd appreciate it and there's always the possibility that he might not even come. As for the gift don't feel weird about him giving u a gift, that's what everybody does wen they go to a wedding so don't feel awkward about it. Its part of the whole wedding tradition. It might be a little different for him when he is working on wedding stuff. If he invites u to his wedding he'll probably feel obligated to invite the rest of ur co-workers so I think that might be unrealistic. I'm sure he'll do w/e he wants to do or needs to do according to his budget wen its time for his wedding.
