Another follow up to the c-section thread!!!

Original post by alina

I have a somewhat silly question:

Is the desire to hold your baby right away, vs. 15 minutes later or half hour later something that develops as you go through the pregnancy?

I am sorry I don't understand why 15-30 minutes would make such a difference between birth experiences. But then again, I don't have a life in my belly

I did not get to hold Aidan for atleast a day after I gave birth. They held him up infront of me after birth and rushed him away. I could not even SEE him for a few hours while they got him situated-- ( He was born with a apgar of 3) . So I was very upset-- which I think anyone would be. I wanted to see him soooo bad after having him inside me for 9 months. This little person who kicked me and moved all around was not inside me anymore-- and I could not hold him. It was a very hard pill to swallow. I felt like he would be scared not knowing where he was -- The next day, once I got to hold him -- It was the best feeling I have ever felt -- and I did not want to let go. I still dont -- to this day ...

I think we are programed to believe that ' certain' things occur during birth from the media. They want it to always seem perfect. Well I have found that nothing in life is ever the way it seems .. So expect the UN expected !

My Dr. put Sean on my belly within seconds after his birth so daddy could cut the cord.

I got to really hold him about 10 minutes later (after the 1 & 5 APGARs). Then they had to take him to NICU because I had a fever and he needed to be monitored for 48 hours.

Like Elle said, 'expect the unexpected'!! I imagined he would room w/ me and not in NICU where I had no BFing support or privacy. It was a mess.

I haven't had a baby yet, but I do imagine often how the birth will be. My OB/GYN delivers in a way so that you can hold the baby as she/he's coming out at the very last minute.
This vision of holding my baby is permanently stamped in my head, and I daydream about it all the time

So I think if I don't get to hold the baby immediately (and I know there is a good chance this could happen) I will probably be upset b/c I've been dreaming obout it so long and I'm not even preggo yet

With that said, I believe I will just wait patiently (hopefully) and cherish the moment that my baby is finally in my arms.
