another hyphenating name question!

another hyphenating name question!

If I hyphenate my name at work, does that mean it needs to hyphenated on everything? I only want to use my maiden name for work purposes (license) but would like to use my husband's name for everything else. a friend told me that it causes confusion, but i have been working for over 12 years with my maiden name, and i would prefer to keep it just for work.

You can definitely use your maiden name at work. I did without a problem

From what I understand (I hypenated) you can use your maiden name for everything. They hypenated part will avoid confusion when you file your tax returns, etc.

I am going to use maiden name for everything (license, accounts, credit cards, etc.) When we have children though, I will probably use the hypenation more.

Re: another hyphenating name question!

i just started all the name changing process and i'm hyphenating---although i might not change it cause of the longest list ever to change everything.
i started with social security and the dmv (btw your hyphenated name won't fit on the license so prepare to give up one of the last names).
my teaching license is next and then the tda and what not. part of the reason i'm hyphenating is so that paperwork like that doesn't get confused---don't want my pension suffering because of last name changes.
as far as i know credit cards, etc things can stay with your maiden name...anything that is involved with taxes, money, passport, etc...change it.

If all of your legal documents are under your maiden name, then your name is legally your maiden name, not hyphenated.

Socially, however, you can obviously choose to go by whatever you want.
