Another Pre-Cana Question...

If you're not getting married IN a church but you are having the preist come to the RH, do you still have to do pre-cana?

(please say no, please say no!)

I dont think you have to. Well I hope you dont it was by far the worst experience of our lives. I was so tempted to not get married in a church b/c of precana. I will cross my fingers you dont have to experience it.

There was a priest there too. We were married by a priest and a rabbi at our RH and were still required to go to pre-cana. Because any priest you use is affiliated with the church, this is usually a requirement.

I thought PreCana was Catholic, and I didn't think Catholic priests would marry you outside of the church.

yeah its true, a practicing catholic priest wont marry you outside the church bc well the catholic church does not recognize your marriage if it is not done inside the church. There are retired priests who do perform ceremonies outside the church. But again still wont be recognized by the church. I know for catholic religions, pre-cana is only needed if you are getting married in a catholic church.

I do know you can take it on your own or maybe the officiant you are using for the RH ceremony might suggest you do this but otherwise no. The people i know who didn't get married in a church, they didn't do pre-cana

when are you supposed to have pre-cana done by? We are not going through the one at my church since FH has a tough work schedule so we are going to do one through the diocese that takes place on a Friday night and Sat afternoon... just don't know when is an ideal time to do it by

Yikes.

You can have your FH get an annulment then get married in a church.

We don't have precana since I am marrying someone greek orthodox.

one of my friends is getting married in Church eventhough her FH is divorced. He wasn't married in the Church the first time around. I know they had to do some extra things that I won't have to do.

Getting married in a church/or by a priest is NOT something I care about. I was trying to make my mom happy and its clearly not going well.

Tonight I got to have a 45 minute conversation about it...
