Another QOTD

FH and i were talking about this... at what point did you start feeling like an adult?

FH and I are 28 but i feel like our familes (not parents, but more extended) dont think of us as adults and think we dont know anything.

We are both educated (MS degree ands Dr.), have professional jobs (im a teacher and FH is a school psychologist), we deal with real life issues everyday handling the lives of other peoples children, and etc.. yet people tend to talk down to us like we dont know.. like telling us things about buying a house that are so obvious my dog would know.

So FH got to talking and we said that for us it was when we started our careers, getting engaged, planning a wedding and looking for a house, for me even more this year because ive had a child in my class who is being abused and i feel like im constantly talking to child protective services

thats funny bc now that we are house hunting i told FH that I really feel like an adult. We had an inspection yesterday and it made it all real!

yeah that was a big thing for FH and I , looking for houses really made this wedding become a reality - like holy shiit this is really happening

honestly this past year...especially with buying the house..i think i've matured a lot in the last year or so..

yeah i know at that point when we do finalyl buy a house that its going to be a big wake up call. I already feel mature but yet i know that once that happens im going to change even more

I think my parents look at us as adults, but his, aahhh, not so much sometimes.

I started feeling like an adult when we moved into our own apt 4 years ago- big changes and wake up calls occur when you live on your own.

ETS- I think that any time you are doing something big in your life, there will always be ppl who have been there, done that and think they know everything..wethr it be wedding planing or buying a house or even a car

absolutely!! and im okay with people giving advice, Im all for good convo on a topic lending suggestions. but i hate when people talk down at me and make me feel stupid. \

I'm a teacher too and the first time I felt like an adult was when I was out at a restaurant and I heard someone call over to me saying my last name..'Ms. Messner'. My sister was with me and she looked at me and said 'God when did you become a grown up? Only grown ups get called by their last name'

well of course with getting married and moving and everything it does feel very adultlike. But in some ways its weird but i still feel like a kid

Over the past few months I finally realized Im ready to go out on my own. I love Jason bc as much as hes an adult, he still has the spark of a child in him, and I see that as being so magical when we have children!

I dont think itll be completed until Im out on my own, bc since im still living home, i still feel very attached

Just since we got engaged... it really has started to hit me that I AM THE ONE getting married.. To me, it still kind of feels like a movie, and I am watching all of this stuff happen. I know I will feel like that on the wedding day too..
Eventhough we both moved out of state 2 yrs ago by ourselves, and all that.. I still didnt feel like an adult until recently!! lol

Definitely closing on our condo, and making our first mortgage payment made me feel like an adult! Of course, planning my wedding as well. Still don't feel anywhere NEAR 'adult' enough to have kids yet though!!

i think meeting and dating fh is what did it for me. I was a little wild before then. i met him and got a new job at the same time; that and buying a place and i feel like whoa I'm suddenly 31 and a grown up.... but in my mind i'll always be 26.

fh on the other hand.... 33 and still acts like he's in college he just cant let go!

ETA: I think i'll feel REALLY adult once I have a kid. that is just so crazy to me, such a huge responsibility
