Another question about bottle feeding

Another question about bottle feeding

I am using AVENT bottles since I started out breast feeding, had the avent pump and just stuck with them. Thing is, they all need to be washed and sterilized. I feel like I spend my entire day washing, sterilizing, making formula and feeding, now that Ryan is just about weaned!!

Question - how long did everyone sterilize bottles (if you did) - like until baby was 4 months or longer? Also, does anyone recommend a particular bottle with disposable liners? Did anyone find that works better? Any trouble going from breast to bottle? All opinions on bottle brands are welcome!

Whew! 2 months down and this motherhood thing is the hardest thing I have ever done!!

I plan on using the Playtex bottles (for when i go back to work) because everyone I know used them, liked them and had a lot less gas problems with them.

Re: Another question about bottle feeding

Everytime I wash the bottles, I boil some water at the same time and then after everything is clean with the tap water, I pour boiled water into the bottles and let them sit for a minute, after which I pour it out and let them air dry. Same with the nipples. I use Dr. Browns bottles so there are 2 additional parts to clean. As I mentioned in your post about formula, I use powdered formula and I find it leaves a residue on the bottles and I found the boiled water gets it off really well. So I guess my answer is I still sort of do it. You know how there are certain chores some people hate and others don't mind? This is one of my 'I dont mind doing it' chores for some reason.

I did not like the Avent bottles and neither did Paul, so I stopped using them. But, I know plenty of Moms that swear by them.

I used the Playtex nursers, but with the clear silicone nipples - not the brownish latex ones. I found that the silicone ones are more bulbous (sp?), and therefore made the transition from breast to bottle better.

I have about 15 bottles. Some are 8 oz, and some are 4 oz. You may not think you need that many, but it does cut down how often you have to wash them. I do not sterilize the bottles at all, since the drop-in liners allow for a fresh bottle every time. However, we wash the bottle parts in the dishwasher every night, to ensure they are very clean. Get yourself a plastic dishwasher caddy to hold all the small parts - it makes a world of difference! BRU carries them, and they are sold in packs of two.

Playtex recommends that you sterilize the nipples before the first use and then just once a week for as long as you keep them. I follow their directions, and sterilize them once a week after washing them w/hot soapy water.
