Another question for my SUNY wedding assignment!

Hi again ladies,

For anyone who is reading my posts for the first time....although I have a great boyfriend, I am not engaged. Instead I am using this website and all your great help to create a project for my SUNY Farmingdale Contemporary Marriage-Sociology class. My assignment was to plan a wedding in 2 days with a budget of $10,000! So far so many of you ladies have given me soooo much great advice...thank you for all of it.

So far I am coming along really well and I think I am nearing the completion of this project, here is a list of what I have so far: I used ebay for the dress/veil/shoes/tux, ceremony and reception at Milleridge. Family friend as minister. Photographer from Craigs list. Flowers and cake from Stop and Shop, and invites from a website. I also added in tipping and shipping costs for the clothing.

1) Dress $175.00
2) Shoes- Bride $32.50
3) Veil $18.99
4) Shipping for bride?s clothing $75.10
5) Tuxedo $89.99
6) Shoes- Groom $14.99
7) Shipping for groom?s clothing $31.00
8) Venue- Milleridge Inn (75 guests) $2,250.00
9) Tipping for Milleridge Inn $450.00
10) DJ $450.00
11) Tipping for DJ $45.00
12) Invitations $60.32
13) Postage - 75x2x.39 $58.50 (stamps for invitations and RSVP?s)
14) Marriage License $40.00
15) Limo $295.00
16) Tipping for limo driver $29.50
17) Photographer $850.00
18) Tipping for Photographer $85.00
19) Flowers $300.00
20) Cake $129.00

To save money I will say am not doing favors, and will also say that I am doing my own hair and makeup.

Is there anything essential to a wedding that you see I might have forgotten to add??

Thanks!!

you're only tipping 10%?? Even though this is a project - I think you should budget more for gratuity, at least 15%...

I can't think of anything you've missed, but I'm in the very first stages of wedding planning..

Also, I bet you'll get a ton of FM from bride-to-be's about what vendors you got these quotes from!!

Good luck with your class!

I am trying to figue in a honey moon now....I forgot the rings . Since it is suppose to be a quick wedding, anything that I can justify as things I already have like under garments I'm not factoring in.

your limo service tip is off---the standard in the limo industry is 20% and just about all limo companies make it mandatory and add it to the final price. (then you have the option to tip additional if you wish)

i agree that the tipping is a little low--about 15% is usually expected.

what about wedding nite accomodations?

i knot it's not necessary--but if you are truly do a wedding, it's customary to tip the maitre d' and bridal attendant at a hall.

Re: Another question for my SUNY wedding assignment!

oh and also you can save some money on postage if you set up your rsvps on the internet on like evite or something. I heard some people do this

Re: Another question for my SUNY wedding assignment!

and..... you could save money on invites if you print them yourself and buy a do it yourself kit at michaels usually $30.00 but they have 40% off coupons so you can get them from aprox $17

also add in the cost of an ink cartridge for your printer if you are counting every cost.

My Milleridge Cottage wedding reception INCLUDES the cake, as well as floral centerpieces!

You just saved some $$$!

Re: Another question for my SUNY wedding assignment!

It looks like you have the reception working out to be $30 per person. That seems really low to me.

Great project but can you really get Milleridge at that price????????????????

Re: Another question for my SUNY wedding assignment!

This won't make a huge difference but, your invitations might take a little bit more $$ to mail if you are having response cards and inserts. They might come to $0.63 instead of $0.39.

That's a great deal for Milleridge!

You can definitely do without the limos if you want to save some $$$.

ETA: You can save $$ on the groom's clothing by going to somewhere like Men's Wearhouse, FH got his tuxes and shoes for $99 plus tax, you are at $105 plus shipping right now. There were less expensive tuxes available there as well, they start at $59.99 and there are coupons on their site for wedding related rentals.
