Another question for the Jewish brides (about readings)
Is anyone planning on doing readings?
We were thinking about it and asked the rabbi today. He mentioned having the 3 readers do the blessings of Sheva Brachot (each one taking two and the rabbi would read the last).
At first I liked the idea but then I found them online and I'm not so sure anymore....one isn't Jewish so i'm not sure if that would work. He might not feel so comfortable.
Any ideas of anything else?

Jewish weddings dont have readings like christian weddings do.
it is a nice gesture to honor people with reading the translations of the sheva b'rachot.
which translation were you looking at? the traditional one or the Reform one?

I'm not sure about this -- at my brother's wedding my grandfather said the motzi over challah and wine before dinner, but I don't think anyone read anything during the actual ceremony. Can't remember any readings at any of the other Jewish weddings I've been to.

We're not. I liked the idea of having certain guests recite the sheva brachot, but FH nixed it.

The rabbi said there were other translations but I don't know where....he had said just to 'google' it.
My sister had a reading at her wedding but that was interfaith and I think as long as the rabbi is reforn, its not really a big deal but you're right, traditionally it's just not done.
We thought it would be a nice gesture to include a few friends who were a little bummed out they weren't in the BP....1 turned into 2 turned into 3........I'm just worried that the 1 guy that isn't jewish might not like the idea of reading something that is part of Jewish text.

We personally didn't have any readings - my Rabbi suggested having my grandfather do one of the 7 blessings, but we opted against it.
Take a look at Preshussmurf's review - she had an interfaith ceremony, and I know she had 1 or 2 readings....

If you get the book 'The New Jewish Wedding' by Anita Diamant (she also wrote that amazing book, The Red Tent), there are a number of translations for the seven blessings.
I have been a BM in a number of weddings and have opted out of having a wedding party - instead, I have decided to have each of the people who would have been in the party to read one of the blessings
