I'm beginning to think we made a huge mistake in our photography package. NOT our photographer, obviously.
When we were looking for vendors, FH was going nuts with the prices that we were being quoted. For all our vendors, not just photo/video. He couldn't fathom spending 5k on it, even though that seemed to be the going rate.
We ended up getting an extremely fair deal (IMO) with our photographer, and while FH still likes to whine that it costs more than the bedroom set we're looking to purchase, he accepted it as par for the course. In order to keep the total price closer to what he felt was appropriate, we had to delete the printed proofs and proof album from our package.
BUT as a result, our high-res cds will now not be edited. They'll be color corrected for white balance, but no black/white or sepia (which I'm not AS concerned about since that's fairly easy enough to do ourselves), but also not that beautiful blue tone/play of light that was in our epics, which is the reason we booked our photographer, and FH admitted, sheepishly, that he won't be able to do himself as well with the raw files.
We both loved our epics...and I caught FH falter. I think he realized we probably made a mistake...I almost think that our pictures are a WORSE value at this lower price because they're not going to be edited. I think I might regret it if I don't try to add it back to our contract.
The pictures will be beautiful no matter what, of this I'm sure. There were a few unedited pics from our epics that were still gorgeous, and clear, and crisp. I just don't want to feel like we were cheap and lost out on something really special.
Should I just add it back and tell FH Happy Wedding Present?

Add it back.
Absolutely, add it back.
I just received my proofs and I have to tell you that they are BEYOND, BEYOND amazing and I count my lucky stars that I decided to rebook photography and go with Tom. Well...he wasn't my actual photog, his back up team was but the photos are exquisite.
What makes them Tom's style is the use of light and effects. I was looking at a friend's photos this morning and definitely the colors and richness of everything really stood out in my proofs.
This is an area where you don't want to pinch pennies. Trust me, especially Thomas Paul. The bedroom set, you'll probably end up replacing. Your photos- there's no do over.

Couldn't agree more. Add it back but just don't get an album yet! That's what we're doing :)

Re: Another question re: photography
Def get the color corrected pics / proofs!! That part of the work is what TP is known for...and you'll want to digest all of the hard copy proofs when deciding for your album. Add it back!!

Yes, holding them in your hand and really scrutinizing will be SO helpful in making your choice...and they wont go to waste, people will be begging you for the proofs- like our parents this weekend
I can't wait to see all of your beautiful photos!

Re: Another question re: photography
2 things:
1. Does your photo shoot in 'RAW'. If he does, and if you get all the digital's you change it VERY easy *IF* you are handy with the computer and know how to do it.
We specifically have our photog shooting in raw for this purpose.
2. If you are not sure ADD IT BACK!!!!! This is not one thing you wnat to regret a few months or years from now.
YOU CANT GET THE PICTURES BACK!!!

Re: Another question re: photography
i would definitely add it back. i feel like if you book with TP you are booking him because 'he is known' for a particular kind of style and editing. if you take that away then it kind of seems like missing the point. does it cost a lot more to add this back? i think no matter what it is worth it because at the end of the day your pictures are your memories of this special day!

Re: Another question re: photography
I just got off the phone with my photographer, I had sent an email asking for clarification, and my mind has been put to rest that we're DEFINITELY getting the same coloring and effects as the epics, not black/white or sepia cuz that's just a push of the button to change, but that any pics that have the blue tone or the colors were taken that way, so the only thing we're not going to get are printed proofs, but that we're going to get pictures just like every other girl who pays extra for the printed copies will.
I just have to say again how happy I am with Tom at Thomas Paul...by far he has been the absolute BEST vendor I have worked with, and I can't say enough great things about him, that he made sure to call me to go over everything because he sensed I was starting to panic. I'm really so impressed with this level of service, and I'm a tough nut to crack when it comes to that. So excited to see my wedding pics now, I guess I'll have to make do with continually staring at my epics for now

Just add it and say nothing until the proofs come in...after he see the finished product he will not argue...you can tell him it was a surprise.

Re: Another question re: photography
add the edited photos back...dont worry about how much it cost, just do it.
ours were unedited and it suckedddd having to edit them all. i would have rather just paid the extra whatever to let him do it for us.
