Re: Another SD question

Diane teaches in Longwood (I think). You should ask her.

I have a coworker who has both of her children in the district. She is a very particular mom and she thinks Longwood gets a bad rap. Both of her children do well academically and have enjoyed their experiences in Longwood.

Why not go down and check it out for yourself? Esp if you have children. Might be worthwhile.

I hope this was helpful.

Re: Another SD question

Diane,

That's what I thought. Glad to know my memory isn't completely shot!

Do you have any idea WHY Longwood has such a bad rap?

What towns are in the Longwood School District?

Re: Another SD question

I had always thought that okay it wasnt the greatest but I thought it was decent! Then my FSIL who used to live in Coram told me it wasnt so good.

We dont have any kids nor do we plan on having any for some time so honestly we probably wouldnt be living there by the time it is a concern. We are looking in North Coram (just west of 112 off Pine Rd) which is about 35 minutes from each of our parents and the house isnt too big but its perfect for us now. so when we do have kids we would most likely want to move closer to our families and to a larger home but who knows what will happen so I dont want to be in a SD that I am going to say there is NO way I want my kids going there.

ETA thanks for the help!

Re: Another SD question

Kelly that is very close to my house

Karen, Longwood covers a lot of towns:
Coram
Ridge
Middle Island
Medford (parts)
Shirley (parts)

I think that is it.

Re: Another SD question

I always remember Longwood from HS track as a nice school

when I was doing my MS there was a girl in my class who did an internship there and set up a teen pregnancy program, since it was an issue...but honestly I think its just noticable there since its such a large school...I wen to a very desirable SD and there was a PG when I was in 8th grade (kept very quiet...but my mom worked at the school so I had the inside gossip) - so I don't think its a reflection of any SD

Re: Another SD question

I think that alot of school districts get a bad rep, we were looking at houses in the Longwood School district so my FMIL was talking to her hair dress who sends her kids to the Longwood Schools and she raved about them. Plus you have to remeber alot of young people are moving into areas that are less desirible because that is the only places they can afford so eventualy schools change around, so by the time your kids go to school it could be the best school district around.

Re: Another SD question

I briefly substitute taught there and found the teachers to be very nice(exceptionally so, from a sub's perspective) and found them to be very concerned about their students. The kids were well behaved(better than other districts I subbed in) and very sweet, I don't get the bad rap deal
